Don't merged teams go well though? Most of the crowd were Tigers fans.

Merged teams lose fans as quickly as other sides when performing poorly. After 4 losses in a row there were only a smattering of Tigers supporters at ANZ yesterday. If both sides had regular success I would suggest a crowd of 25-30k would be the norm.

The game was at ANZ. The ground sucks and is an inconvience to get to. Put it at a proper ground and people will show up.

Like Phil Gould said yesterday, just as an experiment they should of let the game be free just to see how many they'd get through the gates. I think they'd be lucky to crack 30,000.

I understand why they have games at ANZ but it's a terrible place to have a game outside of Origin games and finals.

heres a thought.

sydney people are LAZY.

its not that theres too many teams, its that people just cant be f**ked going because they're glued to face book, i phone or othert forms of entertainment they can have in their own home.

the titans are averaging around 22,000 and 2nd on the crowd stakes.

maybe its the titans who have fooled us into thinking 22,000 is a good crowd?

You are aware the ground only holds 27000 aren't you? Poor comparison. An average of only 5000 odd short of the ground capacity is very good.

Sarcasm? A very poor way of attempting to express a serious point? Yeah I know of it. You seem well accustomed to it.

sarcasm, a really good way of responding to a dumb point.

you know, like when people say sydney crowds like the 21,800 at souths are dragging down the average when the club with the 2nd highest crowds in the competition is averaging the same.

.... As soon as we dump 5 teams from that cold barren lifeless stinky sh*thole of a city the better.

I'm no tike...hell I'm not any follower of religion but that cold barren lifeless stinky sh*thole just put a week of sunshine on for the 1000s of pilgrims visting the city that was chosen out of everywhere else in the world to host WYD08. Somebody's god likes the place....perhaps its the same god that smiled on Syd-a-nee weather-wise and hospitality-wise in 2000.

im a storm supporter til the day i die, but im a realist - where i live, league gets into the headlines as much as lawn bowls. melbourne is hardly 'covered'. the 9 AFL teams pulled about 3800000 - us at the storm managed about 130000.

like i said earlier..the AFL has our patch more covered than what we have theirs. the swans pull an average of 35000 a game - HIGHER than ANY league team last year (including brisbane) - thats DOUBLE the average in sydney. the lions almost got the same as the broncos, and higher than ANY other club.

AFL is a massive threat to our beautiful game. the teams in western sydney and the gold coast will hurt us a lot. and unlike the league clubs in sydney, the AFL has truckloads of cash to pump into them.

f**k off with your disguised AFL propoganda.

The only support the Swans and Lions have is the ex-pat losers that turn up every week, because no one else gives a rats. The Tv ratings are last week after week.

Furthermore, big crowds like the recent Collingwood game, was packed with their supporters from Victoriania, because that is as close to an 'overseas' game that you get in that rubbish sport.

Now run along you stupid dope.

for an AFL fan, the longest plane trip they use to watch their sport is domestic.

we need international.

Why don't you disprove what I have said, rather than come out with some bullsh*t glib one-liner?

I don't deny that AFL is 'girt by sea' and because of that it shouldn't be seen as a big threat against what rugby league can offer. Using that argument though - why isn't soccer more popular given that it is a more global game than the provinicial rugby league? I do think there's room to have an alternate sport option in Sydney's west (although I disagree with Blacktown (mis)directing a large part of its budget towards furthering one sport). If rugby league IS so strong that it will withstand AFL's presence then why such animosity towards them trying and wasting their $$$$.

The fact is that while rugby league is the preferred sport of posters on a rugby league chat room, it does not attract the crowds that it should....least of all in Sydney. Where are the missing people and what are they doing with themselves? If an alternate sport gets the 'Norms' & 'Normas' off their butts and out of the lounge room then its no skin off my rugby league loving nose & well and good for them doing something.
