A reasonable crowd but nothing to write home about, despite Chandos chest-beating.
sydney does have too many teams
21,000 is nothing great
however, it'd be good if there'd be crowds like that every week in Syd
f**k off with your disguised AFL propoganda.
The only support the Swans and Lions have is the ex-pat losers that turn up every week, because no one else gives a rats. The Tv ratings are last week after week.
Furthermore, big crowds like the recent Collingwood game, was packed with their supporters from Victoriania, because that is as close to an 'overseas' game that you get in that rubbish sport.
Now run along you stupid dope.
now ur getting all defensive about this. im just raising the simple point that AFL is sh*tting all over us in terms of crowds, even on our home turf. this is one of the many explainations for why so many sydney clubs r on the rocks. the fact that two more team are invading our patch is a scary prospect.
u r the one who is the stupid dope who is taking this personally, and not willing to bring up something to add to the disscussion.
and no, i hate AFL, im not making propaganda for them, im simply raising the facts.
now run along you stupid dope.
summary Of Pay Tv This Week
1. Rl 1,347,000
2. Daylight
3. Afl 892,000
4. Ru 273,000
Rl Over Afl : 455,000
Rl Over Ru : 1,074,000
Rl Over Afl And Ru Combined : 182,000
Rl Percentage Difference In Viewers Over Afl : 51%
Afl Extra Tv Money Over Rl : 20%
just shows how much we're getting ripped off by. they get more crowds, we get less crowds - they invade our heartland. we get more viewers, they get less viewers - they get more money for it.
the biggest danger in this is the development of the game - going to a game means a hell of a lot more to a little kid than watching it on tv. AFL's push into western sydney and into the gold coast only spells trouble for our ailing clubs.
it shows that despite all the hype, AFL is considerably smalller than RL so no need to worry about a smaller sport.
The Cowboys are coming dead last and draw from a much smaller population you deadsh*t.
smaller?!?!! mate, have you ever seen it?? unfortunately i have..some mates even dragged me along to the game..haha..it was rubbish. but anyway, the point is, this game aint smaller.
i agree with you that we beat them in tv. also, we have the international game - these are things im really proud of. but it makes me sick that they have the upper hand in everything else.
afl has almost twice the crowds, is more 'national' (and i stand by the fact that until we get perth back, we are no where near national) and has money to burn. have you seen the memebership stats? even the crappest clubs have lots - kangaroos have 34000 memebers. soon AFL will have 18 teams...and there's not much we can do about it, and our game will suffer because of it.

show we how AFL is bigger based on that.
did you even read what i said?
i get what ur saying - TV. but TV is all ur talking about. TV is only one element of the issue...
Those defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics ie: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Canberra, Wollongong, Sunshine Coast.thats a dodgy arguement, mate. what are you calling the top 10 cities??
Wrong.in terms of population (in order) the top 10 cities in australia are: sydney, melbourne, brisbane, perth, adelaide, newcastle, gold coast, canberra, hobart, wollongong.
Look at it this way, RL is the top sport in seven of the top ten.if you look at it that way, AFL has 15 teams there....(plus a MASSIVE influence in tassie)
and the NRL has 14
:lol:another interesting point..in terms of crowds, brisbane the pride of our league - they pull 33k...the lions still pull 31k, and they have one of the lowest. AFL is a machine, its a monster, and i hope to god that it doesnt suceed in western sydney or on the gold coast.
Yet another cowardly fumbleballer pretending to be a RL fan. Have you no shame? Those defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics ie: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Newcastle, Canberra, Wollongong, Sunshine Coast.
Wrong.
Look t it this way, RL is the top sport in 7 of the top ten.
Wow, a tardballer retreating to quoting crowd figures. WTG dickhead.
The Lions are averaging 27K this year and their crowds have been slumping ever since the stopped winning GF's. It won't be too long before the Titans (22K) are pulling bigger averages than they them.
to quote AFL ads, Id like to see that.
good to see the lions crowds are down by that much, i really hope they keep falling
GC17 could well wipe out the vermin from queensland
It's worth noting that it's really easy for the Lions to inflate their crowd as the ground is 42,000 (their all-time record is 37K lol) and with the vomit coloured seats it looks like more people are there. Compare that to the Titans and their 27K stadium, where the light blue seats stand out like dog's balls. Even so I still think that the Titans will average higher than the Lions not far down the track.
