The bulldogs won't be able to do anything. He will play in France. Why would a french club pay any attention to what an australian court might say?

Hopefully the International Court of Arbitration for Sport can be used in this situation.

Might not pay any attention to the courts here, but the CAS is a different matter.

Well to me it boils down to percentages.SBW stays with the Dogs = Nasser gets zilch.SBW signs a rugby contract = Nasser gets richer.

A French club might not care but SBW will when he is being sued for every cent he makes from them..

What if, as some French sources have suggested, Toulon had already signed him knowing full well that it was in clear breach of his contract with the Bulldogs?

Is there a lawyer in the forums!?!?

I hope the Canterbury Bulldogs sue the pants off SBW for every cent he has and more.

What a joke this is..and what a weak individual SBW is.

The Doggie fans deserve better then this garbage and so does the club.

Otherwise i hope the prick is also forced to play out the rest of the 3.5 years in Park footy.

hey guys... now that hes in france does any court action come under the EU system??

i know through covering the C.Ronaldo situation that the EU contract system heavily favours the players. for one thing the club cant hold them to a five year contract. once they get past 3 years the player has the option to buy the rest of his contract out.

The french are well known for thumbing their noses. I'd guess the french club would have realised the implications. It would be good to hear from someone who knows what they're talking about though. Even though its saturday night surely they can find someone to comment.

Can you sue someone who has left the country to (presumably) never return? They may be able to sieze assets I guess.

France can get and get f**ked.

I think we should declare war.

A source with a source inside Toulon Rugby Club tells me that $onny Bill will sign a contract with the club shortly after stepping off the plane in France. It is believed that Toulon will buy out the remainder of the contract with the Bulldogs, lawyers and courts aside.

You read it here first!

What's the point? He already has a contract and he's reniged ob it so what's this one going to be worth?

Sonny doesn't seem like the brightest spark around, but I believe that he would of been smart enough to cover his bases and appreciate the full implications of what he was going to do.

Even if the Dogs do sue him for his contract money he'll still be a million in the black.

But who knows? What I do know is that this is one of the most deceitful and gutless acts I have ever heard of, witnessed or seen. I don't know if he ever plans on coming back to Australia, he's burnt an incredible amount of bridges.

I'd like moderaters to use a bit of common sense and allow multiple threads to be started on this topic. It's going to be 45 pages long by the end of the evening and unable to follow proper discussion. It's the biggest story in league in ages and is worth more than any other threads on this forum combined. Start up a special forum instead of being bigshots and merging threads.
Idiot.

well he could return to australia... as long as he stays out of NSW & QLD he should be sweet.... i doubt anyone would even know who the f*ck he is in melbourne..

im interested to see how he would be treated here in NZ... the RL community is small but very passionate and commited. i know he wont be in the good books with RU fans either because he will most likely play international footy for Les Bleu

ohhh... and Toulon arent a 2nd Division side anymore.... they got promoted so they will be playing in the top14 this season.

The good news is we wont have to listen to his mumbling on he footy show any longer. The bad news is he has abandoned his junior team in the League of their own competition, I think, or did he fulfil that commitment?

P.S. To the bloke claiming that the All Blacks are a "world band", how did they go tonight? Couldn't even beat a rugby league 3rd grade team - i.e. The Wallabies

If the Bulldogs were to sue SBW, his manager and Toulon then it would only partly be about his wages. It's more to do with the damage done to the club by his walking out. This means things like merchandise sales, sponsorship opportunities, even the fact that him not being their impacts upon their ability to make the play offs and win trophies. There is a lot of money at stake there, so he could end up paying through the nose for a long time to come.

That of course is through the civil courts. If it went to the Court for Arbitration in Sport then SBW wouldn't have a leg to stand on. He's signed a contract to play for the Bulldogs, anything signed beyond that would be invalid.
