SBW: the example for Islander players

Except for the entire Bulldogs squad. And the management. And the fans. Yep ... no-one.

Mason negotiated his departure. He didn't leave for money. He left because it wasn't working where he was. And he negotiated his departure. SBW just ran off squeeling like a stuck pig for some buck$ overseas. I wouldn't begrudge him if he left for more money overseas, except for the fact he's only a few months into a new contract and he skulked off in the dead of night.

Oh ... but all that must be Mason's fault right? :sarcasm:

Mason deserted his mates to go to winning side because Canterbury were on the slide. That is stabbing your teammates in the back on mass. He carried on like a fu@#ckwit to get out of his contract.

Willie is a lot smarter than SBW. SBW is vulnerable and easily used and now we have seen the result.

Mason went about it with a little more dignity mate. At least his team mates, coach, fans and management knew what he was feeling and he negotiated a way out of his contract. He didnt piss and moan and bitch for 4 months then run away and hide in Europe, breach his contract and dog all his team mates, and the fans. A wanker of the highest order and no matter how you defend this idiot, it still doesnt take away from the fact that he has that much disrespect for the game, his club, his coach, his team mates and his fans that he just up a disappears like a fart in the wind. If you think Mason carried on, then what has SBW been doing ever since Mason left?

And you say Mason left when the dogs were on the slide...would SBW have left if the dogs were winning the comp. Smells of hypocracy!

On a side note its well known that one of Greg Inglis' closest confidantes is Anthony Mundine.

Wonder if he'll get involved when GI' contract is up at the end of 2010.

I hardly think Sonny's behaviour is desirable. I have pointed out that his behaviour is a direct result of having been screwed by Canterbury, his manager and Willie.

I am not a fan of SBW by any stretch, but it is not hard to see how it has come to this. SBW certainly doesn't deserve to have his name hauled through the mud as is currently occurring.

It would not have come to this if Canterbury hadn't selfishly locked him away for 5 years when they knew he could get twice as much or more elsewhere. 5 years is a long time to become disenchanted.

Bulldogs offered sonny a 3 year deal you moron. Sonny wanted a 5 year deal as he didn't want to go through contract negotiations for a while. Sonny signed the 5 year deal that he wanted.

Perhaps you should check your facts before talking sh*t you merkin.

Why would he wait for his contract to be up?

It was the dogs responsibility to not give him what he asked for. Canterbury were selfish and irresponsible.

What a load of utter bull$hit!
Canterbury offered a kid exactly what he asked for to secure his future for the next 5 years and because he gets the $hits, throws his toys out of the pram and runs away, its Canterbuyrs fault.

Where are you getting this garbage from.
The simple fact that he has walked out on his mates and fans truly shows the make of the man or dog should I say.

He has zero respect for anyone.
Regardless of whether he could of got more if he only signed a 2 year deal, he was one of the highest paid players in the league.

If he tears his ACL and is sidelined for the entire year, does that entitle the Bulldogs to can his contract because he is not worth the 500K per year?

Its a 2 way street pal and SBW quite simply is a hypocrite and thinks he is bigger than the game.

It isn't about respect for other people. It is about his own self worth. He has been undervalued and isn't being paid his worth.

A persons self worth is partly a function of being appropriately rewarded for the work that they do. Sonny is being undervalued and his self esteem has suffered accordingly.

Canterbury selfishly took away his future aspiration eg: to become an all black. They did it at such a young age - he didn't even know if that was what he wanted to do yet.

SBW has barked loud and long about how he feels Islander players don't have a voice and how they get taken advantage of. But now, in one fell swoop, he's tarnished them all a little bit and has basically, in his self-appointed role as spokesman for Islander players, told them all to act dishonourably and grab money, betray your ethics and lie.

Thats a fairly broad brush youre using there. So all islander players are tarnished? Ok then so since Todd Carney pissed on some guys leg in a pub that means all white people are tarnished too right?

Mostly cracka. Look at him, he's hardly black. Completely white (half Kiwi half Aussie) on his Mum's side and, well, his Dad's surname is "Williams" so he's hardly 100% Samoan.

C'mon cuz hes Sa as they come.

You really are an idiot!

Its ok SBW....You can $hit on and betray anyone you like, breach a contract that you asked for an signed, disrespect you club, team mates, and the game that has given you so much, just as long as your own self esteem doesnt take a hit.

Canterbury GAVE him his future, without them, he wouldnt have the money he has at the moment or the skills or reputation. They gave him everything that he should be thankful for as a professional sportsman . If you dont think he should have respect for that, then you truly are a dillusional merkin as stated by many previous people on this forum.

Lol, so you think the other fifteen teams wouldnt have had anything to do him. Bulldogs gave him an outlet for his talent but lets not go overboard.

Look if what I read about Bulldogs promising him things is true I can empathise with him, but he's gone about it the wrong way.

He should have at least manned up in a news conference and answered each and every question thrown at him.

Not wimpered off into the night like a coward

Canterbury did not give SBW his future. He would have been an outrageous success no matter what club he went to. Canterbury got hold of him and made bloody sure they didn't let him go. That is all they have done.

SBW is the cream that rises to the surface.

I have no doubt the other 15 teams would have pounced. He had natural abilities sure but the Bulldogs still made him in the player he is today. I understand they didnt give him size, strength and speed and anything else that made SBW a great player, but they still put a great deal of time, money and resources into assuring he got to where he did in his football career.

I agree, if he wanted out then that is why you have a manager, you sort it out like a MAN and not a snot nosed little kid who runs off like a thief in the night. It was gutless and disrespectful and has lost all credibility.

Who are you to say what he's worth? The guy only plays half the total games cause he's so injury prone. The Bulldogs offering him a 5 year contract is a gamble on their part.

And what are the Bulldogs supposed to do? Give each player an IQ test before offering them a contract? Do you know his IQ by the way? He's old enough to sign the legal document, therefore he's old enough to face the consequences.

I'm hoping the Bulldogs force him to sit out the next 4 years.
