I honestly hope thurston and inglis go to french rugby. I dont mind players chasing the cash, but the way these two idiots carry on about it is embarrassing.

Thurston hasn't publicly said anything about France. It's just that bloody Onion is chasing him hard. As for Greg, he's the one carrying on all the publicity and speculation, and showing us he is very dumb.

Thurston has publicly stated that he would honour his contract with the cowboys but if the nrl doesn't change the cap, they could lose him to french rugby.

I'm a Manly fan, and thought it was more exciting to watch the no name Bulldogs bust their arse tonight against The Eels, than watching those tools SBW or Mark Gasnier sit on their clubs sidelines injured all the time.

If Inglis wants to go - see ya. If Slater is going to try the same thing - see ya. Melbourne have already lost:-

Tagatese
Crocker
Kaufusi
J Smith
Geyer
Foran

for next year, now the rest of the playing group is crying French. All except Cam Smith, who's talking up a move north of the border - LoL.

Tagatese - Dud
Crocker - breaking Down
Kaufusi - Not living up to potential
J Smith - Good honest player, Tolman will replace him
Geyer - past it
Foran - ??????

You keep on lol'n, another 2 or 3 years of losing players and you might be able to beat us.......lol

We're happy to talk to them about potential relationships with our sponsors but we've made it clear there can't be any exceptions to the salary cap rules," Gallop said.

Why should Melbourne get a leg up? Helping Gasnier and Johns was also a load of crap.

Either do it evenly across all clubs, or don't do it at all.

What a farce.
Agree. The worst mistake the NRL made was being forced into mortaging it's back yard just to keep Joey and his manager "in the game". They should have called the greedy merkins bluff, same goes for Gaz's previous deal, which ended up not being enough moolah for the precious merkin anyway.

Do we keep repeating the failed approach for every jumped up kid on the block with a smart manager? No. I applaud Gallop for putting an end to this rewarding perceived superstar nonsense (if that's what the above quote means?).

Mate - at least we don't have players threatening French this or French that at our club. Additionally, how many players are we losing to other NRL clubs next year? It's not a Manly vs. Melbourne debate here mate, it's about the obvious money hungry culture guys like Slater / Inglis / Williams and co. have after being around tools like Nassar, and Mundine.

As good a player as Ingli$ is, if he threatens to walk...shut the hell up about it - and piss off to France then!

Again, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Ryan, Morrin, Hickey and co. but their arses like they did last night, than Sir Money Bill Wanker sitting on the sideline, or watching channel nine make a tv personality out of the guy. Honestly - he couldn't string a sentence together - much like Inglis.

Folkes - a tyrant ! LoL. The same guy who gave him his start, and coached him through the years. Piss off Inglis. Piss off Slater. Piss off Gasnier. Piss off Gower. Your all rust to our game.

How the f**k did Billy Slater get brought into the argument. He's said nothing.

And GI can say whatevr he wants, what type of professional sportsmen rules out options that will decrease his earnings.

Tigers move to silence Benji Marshall union rumours

By Dean Ritchie | August 25, 2008 12:00am

WESTS Tigers chief Steve Noyce is concerned at growing speculation Benji Marshall is considering a shock switch to rugby union.
Noyce also revealed that forward Bronson Harrison has attracted interest from NRL clubs and English Super League clubs.
Speculation about Marshall was rife around ANZ Stadium on Saturday night after Wests Tigers' 48-16 loss to Manly that he could join Sonny Bill Williams, Craig Gower and Mark Gasnier in shifting to rugby union.
Marshall's manager Martin Tauber was unavailable for comment last night. His client is still under contract for next season.
Tigers coach Tim Sheens, angry at his side's capitulation to the Sea Eagles, said there would be a player clean-out after this season.
Since winning the 2005 premiership, Wests Tigers have missed the finals in the past two years and look certain to bomb out again.
"I have heard the Benji rumours," Noyce admitted. "He is under contract for next season and I hope Benji stays with Wests Tigers for the rest of his career.
"I know Benji enjoys the club. I haven't spoken to Benji."
Harrison is a Kiwi Test player and has a year left on his deal.
But Wests Tigers officials have discussed the possibility of Harrison leaving early if he can secure a deal at a rival club.
"There has been interest for Bronson from NRL clubs and from overseas," Noyce said.

 Benji's playing like a busted arse - he'd hardly be a loss to the code, or even to the Wests Tigers (as I'm sure most of their fans would agree?).

NZ are in trouble if he's all they've got in the halves come the end of year WC matches - what price PNG to knock them out if Benji is in the #6 or #7?

French RU has also signed Jason Ryles for next season. Because of this, he will be suspended for the remainder of this NRL season. :sarcasm:

if you cant see that losing players such as inglis, gasnier, williams etc is damaging our game you are blind. these types of players are once in a generation type players and rugby league is a lot worse off without them. we need to do all we can to pay players such as inglis the money they deserve to keep them in the game.

Thought he was going to ESL with the club Les Catalans Dragons. Still warrants a suspension.

Can you give us a direct quote where Inglis or any other Storm player has "threatened" to go to French union? Unless you call someone saying they're keeping all their options open a threat which isn't a threat at all.

If that's the case then pretty much every player is guilty of threatening to leave their club at the end of their contract because the vast majority of them say they're keeping their options open when they're asked. It's a good bargaining tool.

Obviously he's threatened something..

http://www.leaguehq.com.au/news/new...lks-with-inglis/2008/08/26/1219516471447.html

NRL chief executive David Gallop yesterday held secret talks with Storm superstar Greg Inglis to ensure he does not follow Mark Gasnier and Sonny Bill Williams to French rugby.
As the Panthers rejected claims back-rower Frank Pritchard feigned injury during the loss to Melbourne on Monday night because he is poised to walk out and play overseas, Gallop held talks with Inglis in his office to discuss ways of keeping him in the code.
While the Storm initiated the meeting, the NRL used it to discuss a raft of marketing possibilities to strengthen Inglis's standing as one of the game's headline acts. Clearly, the big sell is on.
But if Inglis or Melbourne thinks it is a sure sign the NRL is prepared to throw truckloads of cash at the Australian and Queensland superstar, they should think again.
"I made it clear we can't make exceptions [under the salary cap] despite his status in the game," Gallop told the Herald last night. "I used the example of someone like Terry Campese. He's not in the top five players in the game but he's just as important to the Raiders as Greg is to the Storm."
The talks are a proactive attempt from Gallop and the NRL to stem the flow of elite players to Europe after being widely accused of doing too little.
Melbourne are desperate to upgrade and extend Inglis's contract before it expires at the end of the 2010 season - hopefully for at least another two seasons - and more so since Inglis told journalists he would not rule out a move to French rugby.
He has also refused to rule out a switch to manager Khoder Nasser, who manages Inglis's close friend, boxer Anthony Mundine, and was instrumental in Williams's defection to French rugby side Toulon.
Inglis's manager, Allan Gainey, attended the meeting with Gallop yesterday alongside Storm football manager Frank Ponissi and NRL marketing manager Paul Kind. The NRL wants to give Inglis a higher profile - especially in the indigenous community - so he can build his earnings from the game.

Obviously he's threatened something..

So do we have a quote where he's threatened anything? Once again saying your keeping your options open isn't a threat. Pretty much every player says/does it and if they didn't keep their options open then they'd be stupid not to.

If he came out and said "Give me more money or i'm going to union or the ESL" then that's a threat and If he did threaten that i'd be as pissed off as the next person. But until someone can quote him saying that then it's just the usual media bullsh*t and people getting sucked in by it.

Inglis sounds dumb, but he's not that stupid. As if he's going to come out in the media and say "give me more money or I'm going to union or ESL"
