BULLDOGS star Reni Maitua has today been sacked from the Belmore club after he failed to attend training on Monday.
After tolerating a string of incidents involving the 25-year-old, frustrated Bulldogs officials decided to terminate the final year of his contract.

Maitua has previously missed twice, and also had his licence suspended for drink driving. After being dropped to reserve grade two weeks into last season for his previous no-show, the former Australian lock was given his last warning.

Bulldogs CEO Todd Greenberg and new coach Kevin Moore have vowed to return discipline to Belmore after six drama-plagued seasons, a promise they delivered on by sacking the errant Maitua.

“We’ve decided to terminate Reni’s contract for repeated breaches of the club’s code of conduct,’’ Greenberg said. “It’s not the first time something like this has happened and we simply can’t put up with it any more.’’

Good riddance i say. Didn't want to be at the club, no point in carrying around dead weight.

I think the Beatles could best echo the sentiments of 'Dogs fans regarding Reni.

Good news for the Dogs IMO. He seems to be the last of the troubled players at the club.

The Bulldogs have terminated the contract of Reni Maitua following repeated breaches of the Club’s Code of Conduct.

Reni’s final transgression came on Monday when he missed a team training session and neglected to contact anyone at the Club to offer an explanation for his absence.

“Reni was under no illusions as to the standards expected of Bulldogs players and he failed to meet them,” said Chief Executive Mr Todd Greenberg.

“Despite repeated attempts to assist Reni over the years he has left us with no choice but to end his time with the Club.

“It is an incredibly disappointing situation for everyone involved.”

Should he choose to do so, Reni will have 48 hours to appeal the breach notice as per the Club’s Code of Conduct.

The Bulldogs will offer Reni the use of a counselling service to help him work through his options for the future.

Mr Greenberg and Head Coach Kevin Moore will be available to the media at 4pm today at the Bulldogs head office Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre, Sydney Olympic Park.

Parking: All attending media are requested to park in P2 via Shane Gould Avenue (off Edwin Flack Av), collect a parking ticket which we will validate it free of charge.

Well done to the Bulldogs, they finally seem to be taking a stance on players behaviour.

He played really well a few years ago but it has been obvious he is off with the fairies of late.

Has talent but either not the mental toughness to be a consistant NRL player or simply doesnt want to be at the dogs.

Time will tell but I hope for his sake he finds a home and concentrates on footy again.
