You forgetting what he did to Qld before that?

And would you prefer a binge drinking session and group sex in a public toilet, no doubt.

Daley couldn't coach a tour bus.

Your criteria: Johns and Fittler., Pearce and Sheens, Fulton and Taylor....

I can see Fittler and Johns both doing the job at some point in their careers, but not yet

Meninga to coach Qld and Roos

By Laine Clark | December 03, 2008 12:00am

MAL Meninga would be able to handle both the Maroons and Kangaroos reins if the national coaching job became available, Queensland Rugby League chairman John McDonald said.
Kangaroos coach Ricky Stuart will be interviewed this week as part of an independent investigation into his conduct following Australia's shock World Cup final loss.
ARL chairman Colin Love will wait for lawyer Robert Weber's independent report - to be presented to world body the RLIF by the end of the week - before deciding on whether sanctions be imposed on Stuart.
Meninga has already been thrown up as a contender for the Australian job if Stuart is axed or resigns, appearing at $6.50 in a market framed by a betting agency for the Kangaroos role.
In September, the QRL handed Meninga a three-year coaching extension, keeping him in control of the Maroons until the end of 2011. He is aiming to steer Queensland to an unprecedented fourth straight Origin series win in 2009.
But McDonald did not believe handling the national and state jobs would be a problem for the legendary former Kangaroos captain.
"He could do both,'' he said. "He would not be required to relinquish his State of Origin position. Mal has been a great ambassador for the game, and a member of the Team of the Century.
"We respect Ricky's contribution to the game as a player and a successful coach but if he (Meninga) wanted to be put up (for the Kangaroos) we would be happy to nominate him. But let's see what happens with Ricky Stuart first.''
QRL managing director Ross Livermore said the perceived friction created by Terry Fearnley juggling the NSW and national jobs in 1985 was a case against Meninga wearing two representative hats.
But he did not rule out Meninga pulling off the double. "We sort of have a policy at the ARL that it is preferable to have a (national) coach who is not coaching a state side and also it is preferable to have a coach not coaching a club side,'' he said.
"We had Terry Fearnley years ago and there was a lot of friction there, so on that basis you would say no. But things change, times change and we will just wait and see what happens. Mal would do an admirable job if he was up there but that hasn't been addressed yet.''
Meanwhile, Stuart's manager John Fordham did not know when his client would be interviewed. He said Stuart had not yet indicated whether he would seek reappointment for a fourth term as Kangaroos coach.
Stuart wrote a heartfelt Sunday newspaper column about his predicament - but Fordham did not want to elaborate further on his client's state of mind on Tuesday.
"With great respect, I am not going to go into all that, about whether he is stressed or not stressed,'' Fordham said. "He has got an obligation to provide a statement to the independent investigation. We are in the process of working on that statement, and that's what we are focussing on."

No way. Ridiculous idea. Would probably lead to even more bias then having a club coach there. Won't happen anyway.

If it's Meninga, there will be pressure on him to relinquish the Maroons job, which would be a good thing for the Blues :D

He's the only name circling at the moment. Then again there are a couple of months before they get to decide.

sorry, but I dont have much time for a big Mal as a coach

he was carried by Queensland last season, anyone could have won with that team he had on paper

he may be able to motivate the team with his passion for Queensland but he doesn't strike me as a mental giant and tactically he'd be short on ideas imo unless some one else came up with the ideas

Exactly, like Neil Henry for QLD. Meninga wouldn't be much of a coach without him.

This isnt 1985 anymore.

Certainly Meninga would have far less conflicts of interest then a club coach does.

As for his tactical nous thats what he hires the assistant for. No big deal, he's a manager not a coach.

Rubbish. A serving Origin coach should not coach the Kangaroos, because the test side is directly taken from Origin sides - allowing bias for the entire team, not just a few selections like when Fulton, Bennet and Stuart held the job.

Current non aligned blokes with the ability from memory:

Junior Pearce,
Mark Murray
Stuart Raper,
Peter Sharpe
Paul Langmanck
Chris Anderson (not likely)
Steve Folkes (if granted leave from the Windies)\
Phil Gould
Terry Lamb

Which one stands out?

Gus.

Thats what selectors are there for.

Which btw theres 3 from NSW and 3 from Qld, who surely go in there with there own state biases when picking the team.

Well I think we can all agree that a former Raider should be coaching the Kangaroos.

It's either Big Mal or Lozza For mine.

Laurie Daley would be alright. haha Tommy Radonikus ?

Gus won't do it. He's got too much to lose. I think he'd just prefer to sit on the side and criticise the people having a go.

If a bloke says I'd rather coach a state over my national team, I would cross out his name and note "never to coach Australia"...

I'm f***king sick of this SOO is the pinnacle rubbish and how NSW and QLD hate each other...

Inglis and Gas didn't look much like they hated each other in the Centenary Test when they combined for That Try...

I supported Meninga at first, but once he had doubt because of QLD then no way...

Didn't Graham Murray take both Roosters and Cowboys to a GF..??..Why not him..??..No NRL job..

John Lang is a good candidate...

Anyway, it'll go to a NRL coach, you watch..!!
