And if Nathan Bracken didnt drop an absolute sitter then South Africa dont hold the world record ODI score and Mick Lewis doesnt hold the bowling record

If If IF, plenty of players have dropped catches, but they dont all get smashed all over the park

Bracken takes the catch and Gibbs is out for about 60 and none of the others would have slaughtered Lewis like he did plus he would have had atleast 1 wicket

Johnson is an all-rounder. A bowling all-rounder is still an all-rounder. How long until Johnson is Australia's best cricketer?

Right now he's a clear no.3 behind Ponting and Clarke.

Just how far he can go will depend on whether or not his performance in Perth was an anomaly or a sign of things to come.

Im still yet to be convinced that he'll become anything more than a good test bowler, averaging high-20s (which like i said is still very good). But coupled with a potential 30 average with the bat he can become a very fine bowling all-rounder.

300 wickets and 3000 runs is well on the cards i reckon.

I agree, the problem is that the Australian selectors seem determined to manufacture a test allrounder. I cannot understand why. None of the candidates I have seen, aside from Watson who is always hurt, look like genuine test allrounders. I have actually been embarrassed for Macdonald at times during this test.

It's like Freddie Flintoff's performance in the 2005 Ashes has damaged the Australian cricket psyche and now you guys feel you need to play an allrounder, even though during your successful era of the last decade and a half you never really played one.

I guess a few years ago we didn't need one because we had the best bowling attack in the world with McGrath, Warne, Gillespie and Lee (when he use to bowl fast), and we also had a keeper who could bat aswell as any genuine batsman. These days we don't have that, Haddin is adequate but Gilchrist was a once in a generation type player and the current bowling attack is piss poor compared to what we had a few years ago

Shaun Pollock/Glenn McGrath/Chaminda Vaas all bowl/bowled around that pace a lot (McGrath had the ability to bowl a little quicker, but apart from the first few years of their careers Pollock and Vaas didn't) and were fairly effective

Quicker is better, but not being quick doesn't mean you can't be effective
