Looking ahead to when we kick News out should we have a change of name for the comp/organising body to cast off remnants of News and SL?

Not to mention that NRL isn't a true reflection of the comp as A) It is isn't National and B) It includes NZ.

How about the PRL, Pacific RL? or ARL, Australasian RL?

I think NRL as a brand hasn't really worked - ie not much would be lost by changing it to reflect the next big change in the game (presumably board restructuring from the top down through NRL/ARL/CRL whenever News moves on).

I think instead of a snappy acronym, the term "rugby league" is what people - fans and others - identify with most. having said that I think RL needs to be the most prominent part of the new name/acronym.

So I'd plump for RLA - Rugby League Australasia. Simple, effective, and you get exactly what it says on the tin.

Super 16.... the naming system seems to work well for Yawnion....

Otherwise, i'd be a big fan of ORAL (Oceanic Region All-Star League)

Yours is similar to mine except mine would be the Rugby League Association (The RLA) replacing the ARL. The RLA would operate a new national competition called the 'Rugby League Premiership' (the new NRL) and the 'Rugby League Cup' (a knockout cup competition).

I like the NRL brand, but it's been tarnished badly of recent times and maybe a fresh start would be good. I think calling it the RL Premiership seems traditional.
