It's disappointing he's a great player, now there's gonna be a huge blemish on his career. The fact the officials did not pick it up is not his fault though, had a player done it and got penalised for it no one would have cared, somewhere the blame has to rest on the officials.

I really dont think you can blame the player

its more than likely an instinct reaction, you dont get time to think

everyone saw it except the officials, they are to blame

the player isn't going to penalise himself

I don't see how there can be any real action taken. We had a similar situation in the 2008 HAL Grand Final when the Jets' James Holland handballed off a corner which would have seen him redded and given us a certain penalty. Instead Vukovic slapped the ref and got the red

Ultimately the decision stands. I hate it, I'd rather have seen Ireland qualify but that's life.

Absolutely magnifique work by Thierry, had a split second to pull it off and he did it. The second touch was genius.

Not surprised by Henry, he's always been a cheating merkin. Absolutely shocking though.

Oh and Eddie, get your hand off it, the referee in the Barcelona vs Chelski match got every decision 100% correct. Drogba, Ballack and co are just a bunch of whinging pricks, and I'd be extremely embarrassed to support any team that they are in.

Geez

You stupid merkin. You support a team called the Celtics, yet come out with such a dumb-arse comment that Ireland is a British nation? I wonder would you be willing to repeat that comment through a megaphone in the centre of Dublin - or Belfast for that matter? :x

Belfast is in Britain so that wouldn't be a problem. However the comment about another British team being knocked out showed a total lack of knowledge on pennywisealfies account.

I would love to see him repeat that in a pub in Ireland, or better during a match at croke park.

Oh and not much to say about Henry really, it was blatant handball, he knows it, we all do. What is done about it is anyones guess. Platini has tried putting more refs behind the line. That would of helped.

Lol at the princesses getting upset with what Penny said. He said what he wanted to say. This is a forum after all.

that's so sh*t. i really like soccer (or football, whatever) but this kind of thing just makes it so hard to really embrace. disgusting cheating all the time.

it happened at the last world cup to us, and it happens to everyone. poor ireland, they deserved better than this.

france are sh*t, hopefully we draw them and can deal out some justice

Personnel wise they should be a good team. Doesn't help when you have a manager who the players have no respect for.

Players shouldn't be put in situations like this. Where is the video for these crunch decisions. Will Mr.Platini castigate Henry like the way he has castigated Chelsea's behaviour? Probably not.
Henry duped the referee, Drogba had to be restrained from attacking the ref, theres a big difference. If there was such a thing as justice drogba would've been banned for a long time

Dublin sure as hell isnt and last i checked it was the Republic of Ireland, not Northern Ireland...

Well imo blatant cheating is far worse than calling the referee a "f**king disgrace"

That "blatant cheating" happens in nearly every soccer game.

Not even close to going on a childish tantrum on national television after the game was over. Drogba had to be restrained from advancing to the official.

Wtf? Every game we have players pulling out moves that look like they belong on the AFL/Gaelic Football field?

It wasn't just a handball. It was TWO handballs, the second of which was 100% intentional. Absolutely BLATANT cheating.

We do see blatant cheating nearly every game. Imo there isn't much difference between what Henry did and whenever a player goes down, when there is no contact made to them, in the penalty box in an attempt to con the ref. Both are trying to cheat the referree to gain an advantage for their team. I probably should have made it clearer as to what I was referring to.

As some have already pointed out, I feel the second handball was more a more of a reflex thing. In the end it admittedly looked pretty bad.

But whatever. You could say it made up for Anelka not getting his penalty when Given tripped him.

The second was wasn't a reflex. He knew exactly what he was doing.

But yeah, clear pen on Anelka - on that note, I'm f**king sick of strikers getting a penalty like that: Run into box, tap ball around keeper, run into keeper, penalty.

Oh yeah I won't deny that he knew what he was doing. Showed great fingertip control to keep the ball in.
