Give him a full off-season I say.

I've watched Hoffman pretty closely over the last 2-3 years he will be good if given the chance and can stay injury free he should be given first shot IMO

Yea I saw a bit of him in the U20s. I like the look of his running game.

I still don't get your point though. I'm not saying he is a bad player, I would be fine with him getting first go. I'm just saying for my style of team I would rather Kemp or Beale.

So... I could basically say the same to you. Why are you choosing Hoffman over our other choices at fullback? Based on what observation?

Whoever gets picked, Hoffman, Beale, Kemp, Hodges I think they will go well and will be up to it. The main thing is i hope we don't try turn someone like Kemp who is known for his speed and elusiveness into Hunt. We will need to let them play their natural game because I can see a lot of Billy Slater moments coming if we try to replicate Hunt. (thats really bad passes off second man plays btw).

I think Kemp is the man, hard to say, depends on the style the Broncos want to play as Broncos Fan mentioned. Does Hoffman have the pace? I would like some genuine speed back in the team!

It's lucky we have so many options. But unlucky to have so few options up front. Swings and roundabouts.

Ahh, I missed it where you said your team (or interpreted it as..."They're MY team! I make the final selections" either way).

My only question is, how much of Beale have you seen at fullback? Unless you caught him in his junior days, the handful of trials or got particularly excited from his one NRL game (where I thought he looked extremely uncomfortable) there isn't much of a chance to catch him at fullback.

Kemp reminds me of a poor man's Slater.

But yes, if you want speed at fullback, I can understand your selections.

Hoffman played for Redcliffe when he wasn't required last season so you can't form much of an opinion over what he did two seasons ago.

If we aren't going to move Lockyer, Hoffman deserves first chance at cementing it as his position for two reasons:

1. He played well when he was given the chance in 2009 and

2. Kemp left the club and I don't believe we should be rolling out the welcome mat upon his return. The guy was ordinary last season and has a bit to do in earning any such call up IMO.

Didn't Kemp only leave because we didn't offer him a contract of any sorts?

You'd have to check. I thought he had a better opportunity with New Zealand and took the chance. Someone will be able to confirm or deny.

As for more on Lockyer and the rumour I brought you all re: fullback, link here.

Lockyer indicated he would seriously consider the shift after talking with Henjak.

"At the end of the day I am going to do what is best for the team," said today.

"It is not a position I am foreign to and since K (Hunt) left, it's been an idea that has crossed my mind as well.

"There is a part of me that doesn't mind the idea, and it is more than just a quirky appeal.

"It would mean I would have to work pretty hard on it and it would take me a while to adapt to it again.

"It's a different role. You have to do a lot more running at fullback, but your defensive load is less, so it's a different fitness you require.

"It would be a challenge and that was part of the appeal of originally going from No.1 to No.6."

Kemp was offered 200K to transfer to the Warriors after only a handful of first grade games. He took the money and had an all expense paid Kiwi holiday.

In other news...

The Broncos are after the services of former International Greg Bird. Henjak has even gone as far as contact the manager. Unfortunately for Ivan, Bird's manager seems adament that his client isn't interested in Birds offer.

In the same article, it was revealed former International Joel Clinton was released from his contract at the Broncos. All but confirming his transfer to Hull next season.

Captain Darren Lockyer has received another accolade with selection into the World XIII. The selectors were made up of former Internationals such as Wally Lewis and Garry Schoefield as well as Rugby League journalists from around the globe. The full side can be seen here: http://www.rleague.com/db/article.php?id=35033

Andrew McCullough, Jharal Yow Yeh and Steve Michaels have been named in the QAS squad to meet in early January. To see the full squad check out: http://www.rleague.com/db/article.php?id=35034

Denan Kemp will prove to be the buy of the season if played at fullback IMO. He is a champion little player and I find it funny how quickly people forget how good he was, in 2008

When he was on the wing.

Very true Mr negative but he also played several games at fullback including his debut and he didn't disgrace himself like Hoffman... Kemp is the real deal hunny..... Get used to it, he will be the leading try scorer in 2010.

Personally I would rate Jharal Yow Yeh higher than Denan Kemp for pure potential. Yow Yeh has the X-factor ... you can see it a mile away. Kemp has the "Y" factor ... Y did the Warriors pay $200,000 for nothing.

You're being very intolerable beads. The point is, what Kemp achieved in 2008 was mostly from the wing, he only played once at fullback that season and he put in a very inconsistent effort. Could he improve? Definately. Do I hope he improves? Of course. However as I see it at this stage I believe he's better suited on the wing, that's where he made a name for himself and I believe that's where he'll help the team.

Hoffman also made an awesome debut. In fact it was so good, despite playing in a side that was completely outplayed he still fielded a Dally M point. Not bad for a debutant. Yes, he's failed to find that form since but I definately saw some glimpses that to me suggested if given the full off-season to prepare he'd be a valuable asset.

Finally, while he hasn't been mentioned I do feel as if Beale will feature heavily in this debate in the months to come so I thought I should address the possibility of him playing at fullback. In truth, I've seen very little of Beale at fullback (only the one NRL game) but I'd certainly be interested to see how he goes there. I just hope he gets a full off-season under his belt and he can stay injury free. The poor kid has ended two seasons with injury and it must be hard for him to find any semblence of consistensy. IMO, he's the closest thing we have to Karmichael left at the club and given his speed he could be our future at fullback (that's if he can avoid the dreaded surgeon's knife).

Time will tell, at the end of the day, I just hope whoever gets the gig that we can all support him and not rubbish the club the first chance we get.

Keep Kemp as a winger, I would be using Lockyer at fullback sparingly though. Him and Wallace were clicking in the halves towards the end of last season, part of that though was the ability to inject himself into games at times when Wallace had the tendency to go missing. Something that only comes with experience really. Also a great kicking game, and also still one of the best in the league at the hit-the-line pass.

What kind of game does Smith have? I've never watched the kid myself.

I'd prefer Hoffman to be given a crack at fullback rather than Lockyer be moved again..... My top 2 choices are Kemp and Beale but I'd take Hoffman in the position if they let Lockyer finish his career in the 6.. Why change 2 positions when we only need to change 1 ?????

Also declaring that Kemp is just a winger is a bit harsh but you maybe right either way I am pretty sure he will find his way into the top team if not at fullback at the very least on the wing in place of Winterstien
