Simple question born from the Danny Wicks thread.
Was it a real premiership? a half? not worth counting?

Just as real if not more genuine than the Super League equivalent.

It probably doesn't hold as much chop as other premierships.

Let's be serious for a minute. If 1997 was a united comp the Broncos would have wiped the floor with the Knights.

And while you the 'winners' on this board are mocking it 12 years later, let's have a look at what they thought at the time....

The Knights beat Manly - the premiers from the year before and the standout side of the season in both comps.
If Manly had won, no one would even question that the year's best side had won, and the Knights were big upset winners, but they knocked over the best fair and square.
I know Broncos fans think they could have won, but they were playing in an inferior comp so no one will ever know if they could have played with the big boys that year.

its a premiership and should be counted as such....as is Brisbane's.
For various reasons (including the comparative strength of the ARL comp vs SL, and the fact that the SL clubs were backstabbing scum who don't deserve any recognition for what they did) , I rate it more valuable than Brisbane's.

 North QLD and Auckland - 2 clubs admitted by the ARL who promptly proceeded to stab them in the back.

One of the most senseless and irrelevant threads I have ever seen on this site. And that is saying something.

Always should count for both teams. Hard to say who was the better team though (Newcastle or Brisbane).

Newcastle did beat the previous premiers, but then Brisbane backed up and won in 98.

We lost, they won. f**k the half comp, f**k the drugs, we were better all year and should have won it. No excuses. Newcastle are rewnowned for being merkins and winning games they are expected to lose, always have, and probably always will.

From the other thread. Good premiership win assholes :(

Forget about which comp was supposedly stronger ... both Newcastle and Brisbane won half a Premiership in 1997.

If it were up to me, both would be striken from the record, winning half a comp is a nice achievement but really, a clayton's premiership

Its also my firm belief Newcastle would have been absolutely smashed, by brisbane in 1997, regardless, i dont consider either a real premiership
