did you ask them if they were guessing? or are you assuming they're guessing?...chances are they got the figure from the Dogs and I for one don't know whether they'd be telling the truth or throwing a curve ball but unless there's a denial by the club why should we think anything differently??

I've never heard of a club holding a media conference or releasing a statement to deny something like that. What would be the point in the Dogs doing that? It's not like his decision is a money issue.

Does the reported $500,000 include a further upgrade for this season? Considering we have recently let go Hauraki the further two years of the deal may only be worth $425,000, for arguments sake. There could also be clauses in regard to Origin selection etc like most contracts......

The $500,000 may well be a guess, could well be close or light years away.

I don't believe for one minute that the club would have seriously hampered themselves by offering Mortimer too much so keeping the likes of Mateo and Keating was almost impossible.

Considering the names we have off contract and the money that some of them are likely to not get again then I'm still reasonably confident unless the Warriors throw Price like money at Mateo.

did you read the SMH article he also posted?

so now the tele is gospel but the SMH is tabloid?

tbh, I was going by the report on 2UE that revealed the 250k a season contract..but regardless of whether it was 250, 500 or 180...it's still big money for a kid going onto his second year and first "full" year of first grade!..goodluck to him anyway.

because Todd Greenberg may have been asked by journos?...

my opinion, and it is my opinion without any proof or knowledge, is that the Dogs were never genuanly in the Hunt for Mortimer, I believe they have bigger fishes to fry and they used Mortimer to help reel it in..I could be way off the mark but that's how I feel.

seeing that both you and Mick are so sensative at the way I've responded to this thread would you both be happy if I change the wording to "reported to be" on 250K??..because quite frankly I don't particularly give a sh*t either way, I just believe that either 1 or both Mateo or Keating will leave...

Yes, im worried that either Mateo or Keating will have to go. In saying that, I think we wont offer INU another contract for 2011 the way hes going. Should free up some money.

I think you've lost the plot.

Firstly, why would he divulge that information when until a couple of hours ago he was still in the hunt for Mortimor... and how would journos have even spoken to him since then. Greenberg seems a classy character and I can't see him leaking such information for no reason.

Secondly, I think you're clutching at straws thinking the Dogs board have other agendas behind offering Mortimor a contract. That's just lunacy. We're talking professional sport here this isn't a movie about conspiracy and extortion attempts.

That would be fine by me

Hang on if cayless time is up and is on a reported 400k-Eric grothe on 200k inu on 250k plus oake. There is about 900k spare + whatever mateo is on now-250k maybe?
So 1.1 mill - minus mortimer would still leave a bit in the bank wouldnt it?
I would think we could keep mateo and kk and either inu or grothe be letting 2 others go?

first of all, I'm just your average punter, I don't know where journos get their info from, I really don't, I've just thrown up a reason as to how that figure was bandied around..do I need to assume that every journo bullsh*ts their way because it suits them??

as for clutching straws, reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend of mine connected with a particular club, he revealed to me that they pulled out of the race to sign a big name player but was asked by the players manager to go along and continue to bump up the price of a player who eventualy signed with a rival club 1 month later for more money than was originaly negotiated, I actually thought this sort of practise never existed but apparently it's rife in the comp..

so in saying that I expect us to lose a player or 2 to the dogs over this, and I'm in no way denagrading Morts's signing but I'm expecting it to happen, I hope I'm wrong but we'll see what happens.

at the end of the day, I'll throw a classic cliche at you and tell you that no player is bigger than the club and the club will always survive regardless of who comes and goes and that to me is more important.
