an eligibility hypothetical

lets say (and i remind you this is purely hypothetical) a great britain player from the superleague signs with a nrl club. having never played international football for england/gb and having a parent born in australia in either qld/nsw (again hypothetical) he is eligible for australia. he is a huge success and the aus selectors put him in the australian side(hypothetical) as he is eligible. however having played all his football in england he would be the only australian eligible player that is uneligible for origin selection?.

im probably not going to get many serious answers to this

QLD would find a way to declare him- Ingils is a NSWelshman FFS

 didn't think of that. QRL will find a way to prove that his grandparents actually conceived his parents while on a holiday in QLD or something, thus making him a QLDer

The ARL wouldn't pick him unless he really wanted to play for Australia. There's plenty of players who are eligible for Australia on residency but who aren't really Australian. SBW and Benji were among them. But if this player was to play for Australia he could still play Origin, just depends on which state he plays in, just like Northern Territorian James McManus.

That is because Marshall and Williams swore their allegiance to NZ, they would have had the right to choose Australia if they wished.

where ever he first plays. example when Michael O'Connor came across to league he had been playing union for Qld and was an ACT union junior, but he first played league for St George which is a club registered with the NSWRL which made him a blue.

They would play where they played their first senior football. If that was in Melbourne I'm not sure how that would go.

Hence why where you're born and raised should be taken into consideration.

A kid who was born and raised in NSW and a proud Blue and grows up wanting to play for the Blues could be poached by a QLD based NRL club at 16. Under the current criteria he'd then be forced to play for QLD.

If it was me in that situation I'd be applying for New Zealand citizenship

That has happened with the Sims brothers. Ashton Sims is eligible for NSW but his younger brother Korbin is playing for QLD because he moved to the Broncos with Ashton. Not sure what their other brother Tariq is eligible for.

It should be noted that more QLD players move to NSW than the other way around. Although I don't think there has been a case where it has worked in our favour.

sims plays test rugby league for fiji currently so would need to switch allegiance to australia to be eligible for nsw. the fact that he can actually do thisif he wants shows how much work we have to improve as a sport!
