Prince - Unluckiest potential rep star of all time?

Its hard to think of someone of such a high quality that has missed out on consistent rep honours because of being behind a superstar. A couple spring to mind, but no one like Prince. So unlucky

Ben Elias - If Boxhead wasn't around...could've done more (talking about Australia here)
Robbie Farah - I think he will continue in the same vein as boxhead...tigers hooker playing behind someone that is just that little bit better
Terry Lamb - Absolute genius on his day but always lived in the shadow of Lozza Daley (amongst others)
Steve Mortimer - unlucky to have played in the same era as Sterlo
Cooper Cronk - Genius...although he will never start for QLD/AUS whilst Thurston is there
Rhys Wesser - Was a machine for a few years there but never got a chance behind a plethora of fullbacks
Matt Bowen - A little bit like Wesser...although injury hasn't helped him
Glenn Stewart - I think this guy will ultimately fall victim to playing in the same era as Creagh/Gallen/Hindmarsh/Watmong/Laafranchi/TLL etc
Luke O'Donnell - See Glenn Stewart
Dale Shearer - Playing behind Belcher didn't help...I know he played a fair bit of origin but ended up floating around the team as a utility when he was a fullback

I'm sure there are plenty more

Cheers,
Moffo

Try Des Morris, one of the Queensland selectors. If he had played in Sydney instead of with the East Brisbane club, he would have played many times for Australia. He refused several offers from big spending NSW clubs to stay in Brisbane. His brother Rod of course went to Sydney and played many games for Australia.

If you want an idea what type of player he was, look at Matt Gillett ... big, rangy with a great offload.

Back then the NSW bias was past a joke and Des never got close to being selected despite great performances at club level for years on end - and I guess that's why he's a logical choice for Queensland selector - ha ha.

I think more Brett Kenny, than Daley.

At his peak in the 80s Lamb was unfortunate not get his more of an opportunity behind Kenny, and Lyons when he came onto the scene with Manly.

Farah will get his opportunity again. He got a crack last year, didnt do too well, they picked Ennis cause of his toughness and aggression needed for Origin.

You could also include Schifcoske along with Bowen and Wesser, unfortunately for them there are other good fullbacks for QLD.

farah will only get another chance if ennis has a series of stinkers.

you're right, kenny kept lamb out through the 80s

Greg Alexander? Before my time but i guess he would have been stuck behind Mortimer and Sterling?

Buderus, Ennis or Smith (Aus)? :sarcasm:

Luke Patten. He's better than most of the fullbacks that have played for NSW in the past decade.

yeah he is unlucky ,he cant help the fact that QLD have too many good players at this present time ,if he could play for NSW he would be picked consistently, he would be good enough for NSW but right now is not good enough for QLD while thurtson and even cronk are around.

Over the past ten years I'd have to say Clinton Schifcofske. For mine, he should've been there in 2004 over Wesser who was fairly pitiful at fullback that series. Had plenty of ticker.

Fair call ... when Schifcofske was around Queensland had about seven Origin level fullbacks.

Shifcofske has had Lockyer, Wesser, Slater, Bowen and Hunt in front of him at various times.

Princey had a go in 2004, and despite Qld losing, he played pretty bloody well that series (especially in game 1). 2008 he got another crack and played very well. If Thurston never played an origin game, I think with Prince Queensland would've had a similar result to what they have had over the past 4 years.
