What happened to Redfern Oval?

It's a disgrace the our club is only allowed 24 hours a week to train there with the Redfern Allblacks using it for 4 hours a week.
As for ANZ Stadium it is a complete joke & there's more atmosphere in the front bar of the Glenroy Hotel than that putrid overrated swamp.

Correct.

The majority of our fans prefer ANZ, this has been proven time and time again.

I loved Redfern back in the 70's but even in the early 80's it was showing signs of distress.

Kogarah Oval is a suburban ground Appin, and it's precincts are far more spacious than Redfern which has allowed them to expand that ground at enormous cost but a relatively minor increase in capacity.

And to the opening poster, stay under that rock.
Well if we are not destined to go back to Redfern or SFS whats the use of us having a Leagues club at Redfern I dont see StGeorge having there leagues club at Tempe & Parra having there's at Wetherill Park,Manly having there's at The Spit and so on, if our games are to be played at a ground other than Redfern or the SFS then have the Leagues club there it's as simple as that.Who is going to go back to the club for a beer and a chat & a meal after a game at Homebush Not To Many it will be a big white Elephant.

I agree it has nothing going for it you feel as if you do not belong there it's just not South Sydney that's why the Dogs are going back to Belmore it's a patehtic excuse for a Rugby League ground let the Swans have it!

That would be a good swap Appin.
Let Souths play their home games at the SCG & let the Swans have ANZ.

As much as i'd love to see us back at redfern i think it would be a step backwards if you could only fit 20k. We should be targeting a large membership base like 30-40k in 5-10 years time and the only arena which could accomodate so many members is anz.

You would rather the SCG over ANZ? That'll do me!

Answer me this? Where are you going to watch the Bunnies go round if we go broke due to not having the $1mill + that ANZ guarantees us each year? A few years back we didn't have a football team and now you are carrying on like a bunch of f**king pop tarts because we have to go ten minutes out of our way to big nasty ANZ to watch them. I'd settle for watching them if they played anywhere as long as we have a team to support. If we need to play out of ANZ to ensure we thrive and survive well so be it. I'll be there.

We'd love for you to vacate our home ground - where we have been for well over ten years - and which is closest to our district than any other home ground.

That said, thanks for letting me in free to the footy once a year :)

You may have been there longer but we got the better deal. Btw make sure you leave it in good condition when you go back to Belmore.

We're contracted to ANZ until 2020 if memory serves, although we can negotiate on the number of games.

We're expecting an announcement on Belmore within a month - but we will only ever be there in a Leichhardt sort of capacity - 3 or 4 per year tops. ANZ Stadium and its surrounds is our home base, it has been for eleven years now. You can have your pretentious dressing room all you like, you're still playing 25km west of your region... soulselling at its finest.

BTW hopefully that's one area where hopefully our club can succeed where your club failed - Redfern should've been rebuilt with potential for hosting NRL games. Belmore's redevelopment is aimed to host NRL matches at some level in the future ;-)

According to Google maps it's 16.8 k's from Redfern oval to ANZ. It's 14.1 from Belmore to ANZ. Not going to quibble over 3 k's are we Tim? Oh that's right, I forgot who I was talking to. :D

Oh and technically you played a couple of years at the sportsground next door so really you haven't been at ANZ for 11 years.
Didn't I say "ANZ Stadium and it's surrounds"? Either way we've been at SOP for over ten years.

You could be pedantic, yes.

Not sure which pretend Google Maps you used, but it's 11.1km from ANZ to Belmore, and 16.5km from the same place to Redfern Oval.

I'll quibble over 5+km, absolutely. That said, the remark I made about whose district ANZ was in. It's either ours or Parramatta's (or even the Tigers), but it's most certainly not in Souths' district.

Google maps on the iPhone. Regardless, district is no longer a factor in the Nrl or professional sport in general. That being said, Souths have one of the most diverse spreads of Membership in the Nrl. Over 20% of our membership comes from the Liverpool area, if you can believe it? That shocked me when I heard that. Regardless, ANZ is technically in neither of our districts so arguing over who is closer is ridiculous. The fact that it is close to the geographic centre of Sydney is the overiding point. Sharing grounds is not unusual, look at the Afl sides that share the MCG. It makes a lot of sense and is great for the members of both clubs as it ensures the viability of the ground itself and also allows for contra ticket deals. I'm happy to share if you guys are.

You are a liar, you are a hypocrite and you will never be part of number 21. :)

Stay under that rock huh.. ok, dont get upset about it champion, im allowed to voice my opinion, for one im not sure if your a Souths supporter so i dont know what your doing in this thread.. 2ndly, id like to know if can you say that you grew up around the area and played along some of the current 1st grade team?... if u can.. then i guess that may entitle you to make a remark like that.

As a matter of fact I am a Souths supporter (refer to my signature below) and I also assist with the moderating (as you should have noticed yesterday).

So we have established you cannot read.

I'm tipping your stay here will not be long but I've been wrong before.

You clearly aren't a Souths supporter - the fact that you found common ground with boo boo confirms this to us "old timers" at Souths LU.

Finally, failing maths is nothing to be ashamed of either but if you want to get on in life you should get some urgent tuition.
