i was thinking about this again last night and i actually have no issues as such with te'o deciding to reprsent qld given he's turned down approaches form NZ, the only problem is if he goes "i'll play for NZ if QLD dont pick me" kinda like what mateo was doing a few years ago with the blues

i know origin is for aussies blah blah blah but i'm really starting to think the only way we can have a strong international game is if we let islanders play origin (let the flaming begin!!!)

Let a bloke like Te'o play origin if he's good enough and let him be eligible for NZ. if we want the international game to grow we have to allow polynesians an opportunity to play in the greatest showcase of all but stil be allowed to play for their country.

we've sene other players like Hunt, Carrol and Thorn turn down NZ approaches because of Origin, i dunno where Costigan stands but wouldnt playing for QLD take him away from PNG? If MATEO was playing good enough to be picked for the blues let him, dont force him into the farcial situation we had a few years ago where he kept syaing "i'll only declare my eligibility for australia if you pick me for the blues"

now i expect to ehar all the bullsh*t "but they wont have passion for the jumper" crap that gets bandied around, but go and look at what Hunt did, he showed passion, Inglis (all the way for bowraville) shows passion, Adrian Lam showed passion etc

FLAME ON!!

Teo's story:

Currently 23 years old

Born in NZ. Lived in NZ until he was 20 when he moved to NSW to play for the Tigers. Played for the Tigers for 2 years. Was part of the NZ train-on squad in 2007. Represented Samoa in the 2008 World Cup.

Moved to Queensland to play for the Broncos a year ago. Is now representing Queensland.

Source: Wikipedia, so could well be wrong in the early days.

He's at least been in Australia since 2005, if not earlier.

He was playing for one of the Gold Coast sides in the Arrive Alive Cup, I think he even won the MotM in the Grand Final.

So obviously they say his first senior game of football was in the arrive alive cup whilst on the Gold Coast, interesting.

Thanks Pete, I'd thought he went to Keebra Park but was thrown off that track.

He didn't turn NZ down, he was part of their train-on squad in 2007 but didn't make the final team. No doubt if they'd picked him he'd have played for NZ.

Lol hayne and ricketson were born here
They also represented Fiji and Ireland respectively
Vic Mackey said:
mason and Tahu moves here before they in school and el masei when he was 10 or something
Mason and El Masri have also represented other nations. Tahu was mentioned because he moved to NSW when he was 12. Around the same age Hunt moved to Australia, yet people still had problems with him playing for QLD.

But don't let double standards get in the way of a good old rage vent.

Apparently that was all averted when he played for Samoa, so any association he had with NZ was wiped clean.

The rules really are stupid.

I don't have a problem for them playing for minor nations in a world cup u genius. I have a problem with. Bloke who wouldn't know to drive from Brisbane to rockhampton playing for qld

As i said: Don't let double standards get in the way of a good old rage vent.

Typical NSWanker attitude - will whinge and cry about a QLD selection who ISN'T EVEN PLAYING.

And on the other side of the coin you've got guys like Jamie Lyon doing everything they can to not have to represent NSW, going as far as applying to retire from rep football just to avoid having to wear the NSW jersey. When that fails, he tells the selectors to leave him out. Such is the pride NSW have for their jersey they pick the scumbag anyway!

So true. Cant think of a QLD player who has turned his back on his state.

there not double standards you fat f*ck

players going round in a mickey mouse tournament means jack sh*t, they were merely promoting the game

tell me honestly, do you believe ben teo should be representing your great state?

Think about this. No-one's bending arms or threatening anyone to represent Queensland ... it seems representing our great State has a magnetic quality. If the smallest loophole can be found in the eligibility rules, players are running into that gap faster than Slater off a Cronk kick.

Representing Queensland is held in such high esteem. It's like the whole immigration debate. We have boatloads of people fleeing from atrocities to represent the Maroons. Do we turn them away? Can we live with ourselves if we leave them floating in an ocean of mediocrity?

I think not!

Wasn't Ribot implicated in the Storm salary cap scandal?

Certainly raises questions about just what methods were used to get storm superstars like folau and Inglis loyal to QLD.

nathan fien, brent webb

Whilst they did go and play for NZ, they were not massive losses as both were 100000s to get in front of Thurston/Prince or Hunt/Slater
Lyon is in the top 10 for NSW and he didnt want to have a bar of NSW for a while. Now he comes back and he loves NSW again

Apples and oranges.

NSW needed Lyon and he said no.

Webb and Fien weren't good enough for QLD so they decided to become Kiwi's just to taste rep. footy again.

But if you put yourself in the players shoes, surely it would be smart for you to accept the rep side that picks you first?

I mean its easy for blokes like Benji Marshall because he's a guaranteed selection for NZ, but for someone like Ben Te'o. What if he turns down QLD because he wants to represent NZ, but they don't pick him for the rest of his career?

I agree though the way the selection rules are now, they are hurting the international game. Although the international game is really a sideshow for Rugby League.

That is pretty much the exact opposite of passion.
