That is pretty much the exact opposite of passion.
:lol::lol:
Say Ben Te'o turns away QLD, because he's passionate about playing for NZ.
NZ don't ever pick him for whatever reason for the rest of his career.
Then he's a passionate moron.
That is pretty much the exact opposite of passion.
They also represented Fiji and Ireland respectively
Mason and El Masri have also represented other nations. Tahu was mentioned because he moved to NSW when he was 12. Around the same age Hunt moved to Australia, yet people still had problems with him playing for QLD.
But don't let double standards get in the way of a good old rage vent.
Apparently that was all averted when he played for Samoa, so any association he had with NZ was wiped clean.
The rules really are stupid.
That's my point. I'm not the one complaining about NSW selecting players who have represented other nations. So what? Players are allowed to change allegiences specifically for the World Cup as it is a promotion of the game in general and having big name players line up for the lesser sides increases the interest as well as the level of competition.
Eels Dude said:And by the way Timana Tahu was actually born in Melbourne before moving to NSW not NZ as people seem to think. Can't really represent Victoria in origin can he?
That's my point. I'm not the one complaining about NSW selecting players who have represented other nations.
Who said he was from NZ? You're missing the point. He and Hunt were both born outside the state they played for, and only moved there around the age of 12, yet no one ever had a cry about Tahu playing Origin.
Equally ambigious with Tonie Carroll, played a stack of tests with NZ while playing in the ESL, but as soon as he rejoins the NRL he wants to play for QLD hence aligning him with Australia again. If a NSW player did this i'd feel the same towards him.
I don't have a problem for them playing for minor nations in a world cup u genius. I have a problem with. Bloke who wouldn't know to drive from Brisbane to rockhampton playing for qld
Frank Grimes; don't bother with these morons mate. Dead set I've never seen a bunch of people who are blind to the facts, or just don't want to read them.
The truth; Brad Thorne represented QLD and Australia BEFORE he represented NZ in Union. He moved to Australia when he was 8 FFS.
Tonie Carroll played for QLD and Australia BEFORE he represented NZ at the 2000 WC. Initially, he turned down the offer, but after he spoke to the NRL and they GUARANTEED that it wouldn't affect his SoO status should he return to the NRL, he agreed to play. The ARL NEEDED players playing under the Grandparents rule and the country of birth eligibility rules to make the WC more competitive.
The same thing with Hayne, Costigan and a dozen other players during the 08 WC, the NRL agreed it wouldn't affect SoO eligibility.
Hunt moved to Australia at 11, Hayne at 13....yet Hunt is a Kiwi? LOLZ:crazy:
As for the point of this thread; Te'o is of Samoan lineage, and lived in NZ growing up. Moved here at 17 (2004) and requested to be Queensland eligible in 2008.
You little blue girls can cry about GI and Te'O all you want and I won't defend them, but the rest of the QLD players mentioned in this thread are as Queensland as a Stradbroke Island shark!!

I do not have a problem with Thorn, Carroll, Hunt etc. Although I wish Hunt played for the Kiwis for the sake of the international game but since he chose Aus Qld was the team he should have played for.
I do think the rules need to be changed so it is not purely based on were the players first senior game is. There should be a number of factors considered when determining eligibilty imo. I think the 1st test should be where the person has spent most of their life, not where they were born or 1st senior game played. Take Inglis as an example, born and raised in Bowraville NSW, moved away at 16 (not sure of exact age) then was picked for QLD at say 20 yrs old because he played his 1st senior game there. To me that is a stupid rule as he spent 80% of his life living in NSW. If he moved to Qld at 10 then yeah he plays for Qld as a greater % of his early life was spent in Qld. If someone like Will Chambers who was born and raised in the NT moved to Qld as a teenager he would obviously be able to play for Qld, same with Tahu for NSW etc. To me that seems like a fairer system.
Lote Tuqiri isn't even on that list.
He's at least been in Australia since 2005, if not earlier.
He was playing for one of the Gold Coast sides in the Arrive Alive Cup, I think he even won the MotM in the Grand Final.
