Will Melbourne lose 1 of their big 4?

Hey all,
I know it's very hard to determine, but I think many of us are starting to get the impression that Melbourne will bend over backwards in an attempt to keep all 4 of their marquee players.

A few players have already signed with other clubs, but there has been no mention of any of the others following. Inglis's name has been mentioned a few times, but he is adamant that he's not going anywhere. I think Melbourne will release many of their players who aren't household names in an attempt to keep their 4 big names. However, in my opinion, the players who should go are the ones that contracts breached the salary cap. No, it's not the players faults as they were not aware of this, and I believe the Storm should pay the difference between what they were signed for, and what other clubs will sign them for (I think the NRL has also stated this).

Yes, we will lose one of the four. The two we MUST keep are Smith and Cronk. I'd prefer to see Inglis leave than the others. Like I've said a in a couple of other posts: we can trim some cap through ditching players like Hoffman and Hinchcliffe. Though lately Noa's said we don't need Slater either, as we have young Gareth Widdop...and if it means we get to keep Manu and Blair and other promising players, he's got a very reasonable point.

Slater and Inglis are the most likely to leave it just depends on who has the money for them and which clubs the players are interested in going too.

No chance they'll lose any of them.

But if they do, they're best off keeping Smith and Cronk, like old mate said.

Slater and Inglis are world-class players but outside backs are a dime a dozen. Quality playmakers are rare as hens teeth and worth their weight in gold.

Look around the fourms; every club's fans want either Smith or Cronk out of the 4. That's because every club not playing well is lacking in the halves.

Inglis is complete crap in club football. He will be let go 100%. Slater is the face of the storm, Cronk is one of the great halfbacks and Smith is the best hooker.

A no brainer.

It's funny to see a Dogs fan whinging about this, they kept all their players and won the comp. Melbourne have probably already lost more players than the Dogs did, Tolmans gone.

You didn't lose any of them until after 2004. The salary cap breach was in 2002 FFS.

I agree Inglis is the least valuable to Melbourne. They look like they've got some classy young kids for the centre spots and of the 4 he offers the least week in and week out.

I am still trying to figure out how they can be $1.2mill over for next season (if media is to be believed). That would be $2-300K over normal top salaries for their top 4 or 5 players. Given they've lost Folau, J. Smith, Turner, etc recently it is staggering amount (again, if true)

Inglis for mine will go to the Broncos if Folau goes to AFL. Slater may go as well after seeing their rookies serve it up to the Dogs today. The young fullback Widdop looks the goods doesn't he?

He does and Ive been saying it since the whole saga started, we can replace Billy the easiest as funny as that sounds. You'll actually see Gareth really excel when we play with more structure and he gets in more positions to use his brilliant ball-playing skills.
