If Brett Stewart gets 4 weeks for dsgracing the game by being drunk and disorderly (The NRL said t had nothing to do wih impending court case).
What penalty for these players that disgraced the NRL by intentional and continual fraudulent activities against the NRL (if proven guilty)?
Thoughts?

Along the same lines - what should the compensation be to the players if they are EVENTUALLY proven to be NOT guilt and had to cope all this sh*t?

Penalties for what? They haven't been proven to do anything. I think being labelled cheats just about everywhere you go is unfair enough as it is.

Good post.

I'm sick of the speculation. Let's wait for the full story shall we?

can't compare to Stewart. Last year Jake Friend got two weeks for DUI...since then Shillo and TRex have done DUI and the NRL didn't lift an eyebrow

They should be made to be driven around the ground on Grand Final day, in the back of flat bed utes. Then all the fans attending can get the chance to tell them how they really feel in person. On the second lap around maybe we could through tomatoes at the the cheating merkins?

Oh yeah, a thought just occurred, as far as penalties to the "players" go.

If they are found to have engaged in deceptive financial conduct constituting fraud, tax evasion and a few other little nice ones, then the NRL's wrist slaps are the least of their worries........ they'll be looking down the barrel of some fines in the vicinity of the evaded taxation, if they evaded taxation is proven to be on purpose then they might look at a large fine.
If it is on a well organised scale that gives the impression of a laundering facility, then f**k me, prison is a very real possibility.
I am also going to assume the players did not put their name to a false statutory declaration.

The directors and others involved though:
Violations of corporations act
tax fraud
financial deception
tax evasion
corporate fraud

and the beat goes on as you add the apparent list of offences up.

Now, now, Bart, you know what's that like, after all you get paraded as the village idiot once a week. Tomato stains are a devil to get off your dunce cap aren't they?

How do we know they weren't paying tax on all their extra money? It's not like the tax office was going to add up the players taxes and report to the NRL that they must be cheating.

As far as I know, all they have done so far is lie to the NRL.

Fairly certain the value of boats, gift vouchers etc would be subject to FBT rules.

Depends on the value of the 'gift'. Of course a new boat or car would be considered a fringe benefit. But I'd be interested to know what the limit is before it becomes taxable.

Well the "fringe benefits" wouldn't have been subject to f**k all taxation had they been done in a manner such as salary sacrifice.
However, out and out freebies DO NOT constitute a salary sacrifice.
As for income issues, I just have a strong feeling the ATO will take a nice long look at all of this, particularly if it is revealed any substantial amount of cash (in the physical form) has been paid out.
