Patten to play out career in UK, Ryan sticks around

Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs fullback Luke Patten has confirmed that he will exercise an option to depart the club at the end of the 2010 season and will take up a three-year deal in the English Super League with Salford.

‘The General' has played 220 first grade games since joining the Bulldogs in 2001 and represented NSW Country on three occasions.

That's almost a guaranteed try anytime anyone breaks through the line. He's a terrible defender. I think five-eighth is his best spot.

5/8's need to be better defenders than fullbacks and generally are. Barba to fullback and Roberts/Keating at 5/8 or bench depending on what the coach wants.

Even so unless Barba really works on his defence in the off season, particularly his one on one defence, I wouldn't be confident in putting him at fullback from what I've seen. Didn't Steve Turner use to be a fullback back in his Penrith days? He might be another option

Barba's defence was questionable last year, it's been much better this year.

Wade Graham Signs Two Year Deal With Sharks

27/07/2010 5:10:35 PM

Just a week into his tenure as Sharks NRL head coach, Shane Flanagan, has lured boom youngster Wade Graham to the club after signing a two-year-deal.
Graham agreed to terms with the Sharks for 2011 and 2012 and will finish at his current club the Penrith Panthers at the conclusion of the 2010 season.
The crafty five-eighth, who has previously been compared to Brad Fittler, made his first grade debut in round 15 of the 2008 competition at just 17 years of age.
His signing comes as the Sharks look to add further depth to their halves in search of their first NRL premiership.
“Wade is a superb athlete who I’m very excited about,” Flanagan said
“He is only 19 years old, has played first grade and all his best footy is in front of him…he has a lot of potential.
“I know a lot of the boys are very excited about his signing and it’s great to see a player of Wade’s calibre come to the Sharks.”
Despite his age, Graham has chalked up almost 40 NRL games and played a strong role in the Panthers rise on the ladder this season.
“Wade is an exceptional player who was not just a target because of his playing ability,” Sharks General Manager of Football, Darren Mooney, said
“His qualities off the field are also very important to the culture we want to create here at Cronulla.”
“The Sharks look forward to having him on board for the next two seasons and it’s a great first signing for Shane as head coach”

More on Tandy:

http://www.leagueunlimited.com/article.php?newsid=19661

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have moved quickly to extend the contract of Ryan Tandy, the prop signing a two-year extension taking him through until the end of the 2012 NRL season.

Tandy joined the Bulldogs just six weeks ago after securing an early release from his contract with the Melbourne Storm.

“Ryan packed up his car after finishing up with the Storm on the Friday, drove 10 hours to Sydney on Saturday and started training with the Bulldogs on Sunday. Since then he hasn't looked back,” said coach Kevin Moore.

“We've been impressed by his professionalism and he's certainly made a big difference to our go-forward.

“It was a major decision for Ryan to leave the Storm, but he backed his ability to secure a long-term contract and we're really pleased that we'll have him at the Bulldogs for another two years.”

Tandy says he's relieved to have his future resolved.

“Obviously I'm glad to have things sorted and I'm very happy that I'll be at the Bulldogs for the next two years,” Tandy said.

“I'm excited about playing for the club and under a coach like Kevin Moore.

“There was a fair bit of uncertainty around contracts when I left the Storm so heading to the Bulldogs mid-season was a move I felt I had to make. Now my future is clear I can settle in and continue to develop my game.

“The Bulldogs have a great culture and I've been made to feel very welcome here.”

I don't much like White, but I'm happy to give him a chance.

This means that the Raiders forward pack will have 3 Origin props, 2 of whom have played for Australia.

I'm happy with that.

But will he play SOO again?

I say its the worst signing in our club history.

Thats including Bickerstaff ,Rua and Frawley

Justin O'Neill and Bryan Norrie re-sign for 2 more years.

Melbourne Storm keeps gun youngster Justin O’Neil

MELBOURNE Storm have beaten off at least three rival NRL clubs to retain gun teenage winger Justin O’Neill after he agreed to a new two-year contract.
And in further good news for the club, veteran prop Bryan Norrie has also agreed to stay in Melbourne for another two years. While most talk has been about which players could be forced out of the embattled club, officials have been deep in discussions with several players about keeping them.

It’s expected the club could make some more announcements next week about further re-signings. O’Neill, who scored a hat-trick of tries in just his second NRL game in Round 15, was being heavily pursued by the Bulldogs, Roosters and North Queensland Cowboys. But the Townsville native opted to stay with Melbourne.
