Even though we won the game, when Southern? cleaned up Halatau in the 05 grand final allowing Thruston to get it out to Ty Williams to score. Mander was about to give it, I was sh*tting bricks, luckily Checcin of all people saw the obstruction and it was called back.

As for losing stories, I wasn't alive in 89, so I guess I don't have any...lucky I guess.

Watching the Roosters/Panthers game again the other night I was reminded of how poorly Mini played.

Mini had a shocker, IIRC he dropped two bombs after which Penrith scored the following set.

Ryan Cross was another, Girdler went off injured and Cross snhould have stepped up. Instead of stepping up like the wannabe rep player he thought he was he became Shane Rodney's bitch.

At the time Rodney was a rookie reserve back rower playing as a make shift centre. If Cross was actually any good he shoud have had a field day running against a 20 year old playing out of position in the biggest game of his life. It's no wonder the Roosters won the grand final Cross dind't play in.

The Sattler moment is a 'magic moment' for Penrith fans. Alot of these horror stories are magic moments from the other team's point of view.

You could say that Canberra's 'short kick off gone wrong' plucked out of the air by Geyer and offloaded to Roycey for the winning try back in 1991 was a horror story for Canberra.

It was Scott Gale who kicked the ball from under the posts.

That try and the one that Izzard scored were made in heaven.

To me,Easts were the form side all year in '03 and I was sh*tting myself all that week leading up to the game and hoping for rain.

On match day my prayers were answered and the wet weather nullified Easts lethal running game,BUT at the same time,the Panthers did score a couple of tries that required risky ball playing not to mention that Sattlers effort on a wet track and him being a forward is highly under-rated by those that want to blame Byrne.

But the beauty of football is that one gets to play another day...and Easts big day will be tomorrow.

With resepct Munky,does it ever occur to people that the reason why players have a bad day at the office is because the other side didn't allow them to play well?

The 2003 GF was one of the most equal and intense matches ever to be played. IIRC there was no mistakes until the 35th minutes which is incredible considering the weather and the ferocity of the foward battle.

It came down to spectacular individual play by Priddis and Sattler's effort to put Byrne down.

Mincello dropped those two bombs cold and I don't think anything our boy's did had any effect in whether he was going to catch them or not.

What was up to Penrith was to make those mistakes count and Priddis made it happen.

What made that game great was that there were no soft points given up. It came down to making the most of your opportunties (ie Priddis and Jason Cayless) and snuffing out the oppositions (Sattler).

Penrith executed that perfectly on the day.

I remember watching something on the footy show or boots and all about a winger. I cant remember what team but I think it was balmain or souths or somthing. But in some grand final in i think the 60s or 70s he coughed up the ball 3 times in about the first 15 minutes which all lead directly to tries. He was subbed off after 15 minutes, left the ground and never played first grade again
