For me, there is only one downside of this happening (if it does), having to like Anthony Mundine.

Who's he going to replace? It'd suck to see such a promising centre in Farrell lose a spot on the team

What other positions can GI play in? He's played FB and wing before hasn't he?

Our wing (Talanoa) is certainly replaceable. I can't believe we resigned him

Would he sign with us because he wanted to play for Souths ?
No.
Would he sign with us even if we have no recognised 5/8 - half combination ?
I dont think so.
Would he sign with us because we are a good chance to win a Grand Final in the next few years ?
I doubt it very much.
Would he sign with us because of the money & being a part of Rusty's posse of admirers ?
A definate possibility.

So much negativity. We do have a decent halves combination and we're a big chance to win a premiership in the next few years.

I think boo_boo is talking about Inglis's perspective

He hasn't shown interest in playing for Souths just to wear the jersey. Our halves/5-8th combination is not better than Brisbane so that's not an incentive and I think Brisbane and Melbourne are just as good a shot at GF's in the next few years

There has got to be a different incentive for him to come here. His original incentive for Brisbane was getting a place up there. But Souths paying out his legal fees and some other things might outweigh that benefit

That's correct BranVan.
GI has never made any mention of our club in any respect before so all of a sudden because there is a chance that he wont end up at the Broncos, Rusty get's in Mundines ear & dusts of the cheque book in readiness to sign.
Talk is we could offload Roy to accomodate GI's asking price but if that happens then it will show very little compassion to another player that deserves to finish his time with the club under better circumstances.

@9NewsBrisbane: Broncos chief to make announcement on Inglis at 3pm today

Finally something more than rumors at 3 (4pm nsw time). At this point he either says "theres nothing to the rumours, we know for a fact he's coming to our team in 2011" OR "we believe he is going to souths, at this point we're officially withdrawing our interest and moving on".

Something their CEO said last night makes me think it's more likely to be the latter:

"We are aware he's in Sydney and we believe through third parties that when he was in Sydney he was considering his future and considering his position with moving to the Rabbitohs. We're frustrated to the point where we're seriously considering our options and we will probably have to move on. We can't just keep telling our fans and our sponsors and our players that he might be playing with us if that's not his intention."

But at this point who really knows, I guess we find out in 45 minutes.

Offtopic: Another reason QLD is stupid, if they had daylight savings the announcement would be announced by now.

Mate there's a fine line between being negative & being realistic.
As a team our halves are our greatest concern with getting a decent fullback a close2nd.
Our current halves are not in a position to deliver if this year was anything to go by & whilst we are good enough to win the GF we wont get there unless if we get a decent halves pairing that can create opportunities & get the best out of our forwards.
We really need to look at what we have atm before we go after someone like Greg Inglis.

could be argued though that getting a GI could attract a better halfback

I think Sandow will get better and better, I would say the same for Sutton that he just needs a bit of fire and consistency in his game, but I've been saying that for years anyway and it hasn't happened.

amazing coup for Souths if can closed.
Assuming yes , would souths play Inglis as a fullback?

perhaps releasing Wesser and also Crocker and freeing some coin.

Wife just had an orgasm (Bunnies member, parent had wedding reception in Redfearn dressing rooms). Good job, as a Storm fan so much happier to see him there then at those lollipopers in Brisbane

You would normally dismiss anything that comes out of Weidlers mouth as pure garbage but anything related to the Mundine camp is usually pretty much on the money.
