I cant find a link for the story, but in todays Sunday Times(Perth) it says that ch9 wants the Souths v Broncos game in June at Perth to be on a friday night. No doubt this confirms that the tv dollar wants Perth at the top if the expansion list.

I think thats our biggest hint yet, especially after Fatty's comments earlier in the week.

Afore mentioned article, whilst the West Australian largely ignores RL and the bid (despite being a sponsor!) the Sunday Times is more RL friendly and good to see the sports editor writing this with the WA Reds logo prominent.

Sunday Times 6/3/2011

Inglis Adds ex-factor to NRL Clash
There will be plenty of feeling in the Sth Sydney Rabbitohs "home" clash with Brisbane Broncos at nib stadium in Perth in June.
Barring injury it will be Greg Inglis's first confrontation with Brisbane, the club he shunned to sign a $1.8mill 3 year deal with Russel Crow's Bunnies.
Whispers from the NRL launch this week suggest free to air broadcaster Channel 9 is keen to play the match on June 24th as the second leg of a Friday night double header. Saturday night is also an option, but Fremantle host Brisbane Lions at Paterson's stadium that night and the nRL is keen to avoid a clash with the AFl opposition. It also wants to capitalise on the broncos massive pulling power in both Q'land and NSW.
Menwhile, expect a June announcement on an expanded NRL from 2013. Nominations for an 8 person independent NRL commision that will run the game close on Friday - there were no WA nominees- with names such as Steve Waugh and Malcolm Turnbull bandied about. The new boards first major decisio9n will be the next TV rights deal and expansion, with the WA Reds a leading candidate along with two consortiums from SE Q'land and others from CC, Wellington and even PNG.
NRL chief David Gallop has already indicated new franchises would require a min 18 months to build a team.
Sports Editor Glen Quartermain

Interestingly I have heard that there is a bit of a bun fight between Ch9 and Fox for this game with both wanting it badly for showing. WARL favours the Friday to avoid the AFL clash but I think there may be a stadium clash on the Friday night.

not sure, nothing on the nib calendar for that date but have vague recollection of someone from the WARL mentioning it as the reason it hasn;t already been locked away (then again it could have been due to the Fox v Ch9 bunfight, my memory isn't what it used to be!)

Hope they get it confirmed soon so fans from both clubs can get planning their trips. I am sure most who intend to come over will be hoping its the Saturday night.

Barring the coldest night on record and a freeway pile up like last year we should be looking at 16-18k hopefully. Part of the problem with these games is it isn't actually the WARL who have responsibility for promoting them, its Sth Sydney.

Like they wanted Souths v Manly at Bluetongue round 4, April 01 to be the Fri 7.30 game also?

Is it possible to be proactive and do it any way?

I think so, i think both games will be on FTA to build up moment for the two expansion teams to be named later in the season.

I think WA will be one of the next two team regardless of anything due to their time slots, i also think if the game that you mentioned either 1) gets a full house or 2) has a lot of Red and Black in the crowd that would go a long way to deciding the fate of the Central Coast Bears bid. Interesting enough, the game that you mentioned falls the day after the Central Coast NRL bid goes to the NRL.

Very disappointing, did Souths do community work last year? (ala the dogs in Adelaide?)

Will they be doing any community work this year?

Don't want to sound ungrateful as A) we are pleased anyone agrees to come! and B) they have been good at running functions, talking our bid up in the local media, coaching the kids etc whilst here. However from what I hear they are mainly here to make corporate contacts so are not that fussed about filling the ground or in supporting the WARL (for example they only give the WARL 200 tickets to the game to sell). I know they are not a charity but would be nice if they spread the love around a bit more!

I suspect they make a fair whack of money out of the venture 15k @ avg $25 ticket + corporates + WA Rabbitohs memberships - $100k for ground hire, travel costs and lost revenue from not holding the game in Sydney still leaves a tidy profit.

Great weekend of Rugby League Round 1 1995. But I dont ever recall a Reds game been shown here, unless it was on Ch 9 late at night.

i gotta say, i'm getting excited about this bid the more i read about it. i'm a believer, i think theyve nudged the bears at the top of the pack. theres too many positives to ignore. i wouldnt support them, but i'm tempted to sign up to support their bid.

i really like the red, yellow and black jersey.

and as a west coast fan in the afl, and as a tightarse who only ever goes somewhere when theres two reasons to go, i cant wait for the raiders and eagles to play on the same weekend.

yep, for anyone who missed it it is on again
Wed Foxsports2 3pm (WAtime) 6pm EST

Great crowd, great atmosphere and a great effort to win the first game. Our pack looked good but our outside backs looked a bit weak.

Roll on 2013 when 16 years after the premature culling of the Reds we will be back!

A couple of days since youve made this post but still no link. Dare i say this could be more BS from Bears supporters? It belongs in the Bears forum if so.
