The most over rated halfback in the NRL.

Chris Sandow is the most overrated halfback in the NRL and could contend for the game's most overrated given some compared him to a young Allan Langer for crying out loud!

Scott Prince is struggling in a struggling Gold Coast side. It's an easy formula to apply to the Gold Coast Titans - shut down Prince, shut down the team. Minus Friend (injured) and Rogers (retired), Prince is going to touch the ball a ridiculous amount of times over 80 minutes and their play becomes predictable. Prince isn't overrated, he is struggling easrly in the season. He won't be the first, he won't be the last great player to suffer this fate. At his best, there aren't many better halves in the competition.

Spot on.

The Rabbits can sign up as many stars as it likes, but so long as Sandow plays at halfback they will do nothing. I can't believe the malingering little brat was compared to Alfie, one of the greatest 7s ever.

WRT the Titans, most of us saw this comming - how many people tipped them for a big slide this year? Anyone with an ounce of common sense.

They are an aging squad, and without the threat Rogers created (taking the pressure off Prince), they will be very flat. 2011's speed hump side.

But it could be worse - at least the Titans aren't the Sharks.

You know what, if the Titans don't fix their problem in finding an alternative option to Prince, I'd say the Sharks MAY just slip past them given they have a brilliant young forward pack that will lay the platform for their backs. Their question remains in their backline who will struggle to capitalise on their forwards good work. Time will tell.

I didn't have Titans in my eight, nothing has changed. They IMO overachieved in 2010 which was a credit to all invovled. 2011 is going to test the patience of all who support the club.

Prince has been out of form for nearly 2 years.
We all know he has skills, but a combination of average gameplan and the weakest defence in the whole nrl by Prince is exposed by good teams. Has been for years.

We have played storm 6 times. 3 with Prince 3 without. 3 games with Prince we have lost by about 40 points a game. The other 3 we won when he wasn't playing. Go figue

Last year Friend sparked the Titans to quite a few wins early in the season, and having him missing is a real standout.

Prince is struggling, but more because he doesn't have Friend/Rogers there to share the load.

Out of form for two years? :? Some are taking the poor start to the season hard and it may be clouding reasoning. Go lie down Coaster. Scott Prince was arguably the best halfback running around in 2010, he made the RLW Team of the Year for the second time in 2010 since joining the Gold Coast (first time in 2008). Your assessment is more than a little off.

As for;

1. Average gameplan - see JC for the problems there. Prince is being asked to execute as per your coach. Cartwright is Mr Teflon in some eyes.

2. Weak defensively - he is in 2011, though he ain't employed by the Gold Coast for his defensive skills. See Allan Langer for example. With that said, I believe the AC joint injury he carried in to the 2010 finals is the problem as he looks timid going in to make a tackle. In previous years, whilst not your strongest defender, Prince and his defensive side of his game hasn't come under the spotlight.

I'd hope for your club that not all of you Titans fans aren't as quick to lay the boot in to their captain.

Prince is still a good player, one of the better halfbacks running around. He just needs to concentrate on playing the game rather than trying to referee it as well.

Mate i respect your opinion, but IMO Prince was a long way off the best Halfback in 2010, a long long way off.
I agree Carty seems to be Mr Teflon sometimes, but i assure you Prince is King Teflon, and never seems to be under the spotlight here.
1. Cartwright has not encouraged Prince to play like this, he has infact tried to make him step back abit last year, the problem with Carty is allthough this is good in theory, (he has never had a classic 5/8)*
2. Prince is non existent in defense- he removes himself from the line, creating holes the size of trucks then allows himself to be targeted by being behind the line, players such as Harrison and Bird could protect him a bit if he stayed in the line, but by dropping back he is exposed. This is not the first game he has done this, and wont be the last. Teams with brains kill us with this stupid weakness of his manhood.

*Carty for some reason will not play Preston at 5/8, as he, i assume, is in his mind too small to be in the front line. Yet he is currently playing the guy at Hooker!!
I would rather have Preston defending in the line then Prince, the amount of courage shown from Presto, is nothing short of astounding. And if Prince had 1/10 of the courage of him he would be the Australian halfback.

Also on attack, the guy needs to straighten and take on the line, his crabbing across field cuts the options for outside guys, we have 2 of the fastest wingers in the NRL, yet i can not remember the last time they got clean ball.

Do i want Prince in the team? YES i do, but he is playing in a f*cking dinner suit, he has gone through his fair share of tragedy in his life, after his fathers death. I watched him change from a young half, to a experienced half (one of the best in the world). He played tough, and he always held his ground, he played as if his father was watching from the stands, and before every game we would go to the bottom right corner and lift some dirt to remind himself.

Now i look at a man wearing 2 diamond earrings, and large sunny's, a 5 year contract locked away, and the chance of playing rep footy almost over. He is playing because this is his job, not because this is his love.

It is time he remembers the face of his father, and plays the game in a way that matters.

Fair enough Coaster, all the best mate. It will get better ;-)

Scott Prince isn't the first half to move about in the defensive line in an effort to not be "spotted" by the attacking team. Again, he ain't there to defend and I don't think he has been targeted for much critique as a whole over his career defensively up until last night. If you watch the replay of last night, watch him closely when deciding whether to brace for impact or make a second effort - he hesitates. I don't think the AC joint injury to his right shoulder is 100% and subconsciously that effects you. I now, I had the same injury and it plays on your mind.

As for 2010, you don't have to agree with my opinion on Prince, though plenty of better judges than you and I will beg to differ. Who was better? Thurston? No, at club level he struggled with consistency and injury. Cronk? Nah uh. Pearce? No not him either. He was part of the form halves pairing, though he wasn't playing week in week out better than Prince in a Titans side that he dragged in to the top four.

You assessment of Prince's courage only shows you don't know the history of Scott Prince or have forgotten. Courage ISN'T lacking in the game of Scott Prince. Please. Study the career of Prince, courage is spelt with a capital C.

The critique of "playing in a dinner suit" - funnily enough, Ricky Stuart was often described as playing the game in a dinner suit and he was one of the greatest halves to have laced on a boot in either code. Unfair critique. May not suit you, but it's not a criticism for a great half, some see it as a compliment.

How has Cartwright discouraged Prince's game play? I know you cannot prove it though where is the evidence? Who else is going to take it to their opponents? And if it isn't the job of Prince it's even further weight to the argument for the other rep calibre players to be kicked whilst they are down just as it seems Prince is copping.

Solution: find a five-eight who can stand on the other side of the ruck as well provide some much needed direction. Capewell is one of the worst personnel decisions under JC's tenure and he should be criticised as much as his captain for not plugging the whole left by Rogers as well as not catering a game plan to the level of player he has on his roster.

The Tits are at the age where they are starting to sag.

Tough times are a coming on the Coast over the next few years. Their squad is old and has missed their window, but no noticable planning for the future rebuilding has been carried out.

IMO the whole backline needs to reordered

1. Gordon - IMO this guy is good enough to play fullback, he would be a much better option then Zillman, shows great speed good under the high ball, and would get him involved a lot more
2. Tomane - lacks defensively at Center, better suited to the wing
3. Tonga - great center that has had a whole year off, and is ready to go, scored 2 tries for the Jets on the weekend.
4. Toopie - solid
5. Mead - needs more ball
6. Preston - creative, unpredictable, and has shown when linked with Prince can be deadly
7. Prince - toughened up

Princey would be a walk up start for the blues, a walk up start.

The most overrated halfback in the NRL is Pearce. Absolute garbage player that I look forward to getting exposed by QLD again this year. It just shows how the media can influence all you dumb bastards. You are all f**king sheep.

I agree Pearce is not as good as some would have you believe, but he is getting better all the time and will be a very good player.
All you are doing is showing an incredible ignorance and possible intelligence (or lack of) that exists in your typical Souths supporter.

Chris Sandow is the worst half in the game, in fact he is so bad, just calling him bad is overrating him. He would be close to the worst half back ever.

On Prince v Hornby, well post all the pics you want, but the one with Hornby in bed with Finch and Archer is the one that tells you the true story

So where to once Preston goes? What about Greg Bird who has won MoM for NSW as a five-eight? I'd back the young forwards to fill Bird in the back row and put him in the halves.

With that said, who is coming through if anyone at the Titans in the halves? And if there is no one, why not JC? Who is on the market in 2012 that plays 6?

The young outside backs aren't the problem, it's the guy partnering Prince. Preston is a reasonable option though he will play like a 7 which won't hurt Prince if both are split.

I think you will find Prince and the side will improve once Friend returns. He commands respect from dummy half as he can rack up plenty of metres there if given the opportunity.

Scotty was by far the best halfback in 2008 but since then he was been declining every year. Its depressing to watch.
