Gasnier played French union.

Bit different to two blokes paid big bucks to basically help give two new fumbleball franchises in RL heartland areas a profile. They are also being actively used to steer kids from RL to AFL.

But then in the case of Gasnier he was made the face of the Rugby League World Cup before walking out because he wasn't getting Tazo money.

And this was after the NRL had to steer him away from the ARU.

what is a possession?
i think it's a Ben Cousins reference.

You see, AFL is a game where you have to try and hide as much illegal substances up your pooper as you can, and then you have to get from one of the field to the other without having an opponent touch your wang. Once they get a hold of the wang, they then have to remove the substance from the possessors donut without using hands or feet.

geez, it's his first-ever game, settle down.
according to another player he went ok:

However, one man who knows about the transition to AFL, former Canadian rugby union player Mike Pyke, who was playing in the Swans' reserves, said Folau didn't strike him as a misfit.
''I thought he went pretty well in defence. He was spoiling, taking on his man and stopping the ball coming in. He was doing his job there,'' he said. ''I only just heard for the first time now that he didn't have any possessions but I don't think you can read too much into that.
''He's a pretty big boy and obviously has some amazing attributes. He's very fast, and can jump very high. I don't see any reason why he couldn't play AFL.''

I'd have him at the Eels, but the money should be appropriate for someone who hadn't played a game of league a good while.

I hope no one showers him with cash to return.

I actually feel that, on some level, he's being taken advantage of. In the long run I think he actually would have made more money staying in league.

Sure, he got a big burst, but beyond this contract he won't make anything like that amount again in AFL. And he'll have damaged his reputation and earning capacity in league too.

At least playing union, Wailor, Gasnier, Tuquiri and Rogers were doing something that at least remotely resembled playing league.

Izzy got duped and now he should pay a price for his stupidity (as a lesson to others). That shouldn't necessarily include never playing league professionally again, though.

Originally I was apart of the hate brigade. However after thinking about it some more I think the whole farce is hilarious. The AFL paid Hunt and Folau huge money which greatly upset the other AFL clubs. Hunt and Folau are on course to become the greatest money-for-flops ever in the AFL. Folau will run back to our great game with his tail between his legs - older and for a lot less money. What Hunt does is anyone's guess. Either way it doesn't worry me if they do or do not come back.

.

league hasn't misssed a single player that has left the code for more money. there's always someone who will take their spot and be just as good if not better.

but they always come back. i have no anger towards any of them but suck sh*t to the dopey afl for wasting all that money. dopey f**ks. nobody cares if cutie of falou are playing afl.

Only fair result is both coming back to league and being forced to play for Cronulla.

Punishment fits the crime I think...

All that proves is Hayne is a moron if that actually happened. Wouldn't mind seeing a source if that was true unless you are doing a bunniesman? Hayne himself said he hadn't been approached.

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/we-dont-want-hayne-says-afl-team-20091127-jwan.html
Hayne was approached, and declined. And you are the moron. cutie got, what, a milion a year? Now, with salary cap relaxing slightly, Hayne and Inglis are on $650k. Both will represent and be high profile for years. cutie and Folau will be at best fringe first graders at nuffy clubs.

In 4 years time, if they both return, it won't be Brisbane first grade. cutie will never represent again, not with the flood of talent at the Broncos, and the logjam of young talent aka Coote, Zillman, Dugan behind Hayne and Slater. Folau will be so match unfit it won't be funny. For a bloke who traded on bulk - that will be gone, and o will his timing and skill.

Besides Slammin, what about integrity and pride? You might have none - but I'm damn sure that it's a commodity worth far more than another 30%.

Neither hunt or izzy did anything wrong by joining the afl.. Who would knock back that type of money.

I know of a current nrl star who knocked back a 5k offer to supply a paragraph stating how awwsome Fiji is. This player wanted 10k to write this paragraph.

Everyone including athletes chase the big dollars. I know I have.
And did you get your big mac voucher for a good game in the under 7's?

Lockyer and Hayne knocked it back, among others. Reason? They aint brainless tools ffs!

And Inglis.

Some NRL players are rugby league players. Rugby League itself matters to them. Those 3 come across as that type of player.

Others are merely athletes doing whatever gets them the $$$. Hunt and Folau come across as that type of player.

It all makes sense now, I wondered how that game (and I use that term loosely) worked.

Agreed, I can cop union converts coming back as they were poached to actually play well and suceed in the code. cutie and Folau were poached to be human advertising campaigns designed to hurt the code that made them stars.

The NRL should make a rule that if you're stupid enough to jump ship to the AFL you can never come back. I can't see it being much of a problem in the future though if these two continue to be the laughing stock of that game.

Yeah but clubs will always be willing to take them back. I'm pretty sure Izzy or Hunt won't have trouble finding a club. Which is sad.

Id be very surprised if Hunt didn't go to French Rugby within 2 years.

I wouldn't be surprised if Folau signed with an NRL club again by the end of next year. Just in time for the new TV deal.

It would be very hard for either of them to come back to RL.

They went off to AFL for the riches, dissing the NRL, only to fail and come crawling back? By which time they have been out of the game for a few years, and changed their body types?

If they fail at AFL, they will chase Rugby Union dollars, probably in Europe. Especially Hunt, he will never play in the NRL again, nor should the money grubbing Karmichael. Lets face it, he was at best an Origin winger/back-up fullback, since replaced easily by Boyd. There is a lot of young tallent comming through and there is no place for him at rep level in the game now. He would just be another run of the mill fullback.

His defection hurt because he had been groomed as Lockyer's successor at the Broncos, which he turned his back on. He will play out his career in obscurity in France, which is more than he deserves. He also talked a lot about how he didn't like Rugby League. Good ridence.

I think Izzy can still maybe come back to the NRL simply because there is still a year to go before he starts at AFL level, and because he appears to be useless at AFL; but the door is closing for him. Izzy is in a different situation, as he clearly chased the money, but has been very uncomfortable with his new job. Hunt wanted to leave and play AFL, where as Folau was chasing the money and would rather play RL.

But if you organise with 2 mates to kick your pregnant girlfriend together to kill the baby you are welcomed back after a few years.

So you claim, too bad Hayne and the AFL denied it though.

In 4 years time, if they both return, it won't blah blah blah

Assume what you like but this means f**k all.

what about integrity and pride?

Waaaaaaaaaa

This whole pride and loyalty BS is only there for dumb people to go on about. Hunt and Folau took a job offering 500k+ more than what they were earning, smart business move on their behalves. Anyone with at least half a brain knows this.
