Ben Smith has been awful this year.
People are talking about a cleanout.
Well, I'd start with him and Reddy.
Both average footballers at best.

Not sure whats happening with Ben Smith....i think the disjunct nature of his role at the moment is affecting his play

but mate, harsh on Reddy, he has been very good since coming back from injury and if he wasn't out there the other night Frank pritchard would also have had about 3 tries

Agreed, Reddy played a decent game.

He was pretty poor in defence last week too, tbh....It's hard enough as it is for kids coming through, so few of them make it. Why heap on the extra pressure of throwing him in the deep end with this rabble?

he is poor in defense in TYC as well which is why I was surprised to see him get the promotion

hopefully he'll work on it as he gets older

we simply need to persist with him TD, hit it on the head, he would of learnt more on Friday than he would with 100 games in the NYC, same with Morgs as soon as his fit just throw them in and leave them there, we've got nothing more to lose out of it.

IMO... Loko is up in 1sts already is because of his size rather than skills. The real good kids that come up at his age often come up despite their size. Think of the Burts, the Barbas, the Thurstons and to a lesser extent the Fittlers. All stars early because of their skill rather than brawn.

Like Tony Williams previously, Loko doesn't have the skills to be playing at this level, yet, and it seems, probably through necessity, that we hoping his size can get him through and mask a lot of his deficiencies until he deveops further. It's tough to learn on the run.

After hearing all the hype surrounding Loko I was looking forward to seeing him play. He was exposed badly in defence on Friday. I dare say if so many Eels fans weren't pinning their hopes on him people would be calling for his sacking right now.

Wow I'm suprised at some of the comments. Personally I see him as FG here on. Best young centre since Judas. Only wish we had the skill to give him some clean ball.

He can't defend though, don't we have enough liabilities in our defensive line already.

Rather Ben Smith who i know won't get dominated.

Loko will be awesome but just needs time.

Quite true, but you often see with the more experienced coaches that they will blood a kid like Loko in the top grade and then drop him back down to NYC, even if they handle the top grade well, just to find their feet again and keep their confidence and hunger strong.
Great tactic, unfortunately Kearney doesn't really have that option, Loko has to swim with the big fish now, hope they don't eat him alive.

No doubt. Now they are there they have to stay.

no offence, but see to me, i don't get this attitude of entitlement....

if he/they are not performing, why does he/they have to stay there....? proving yourself is what lower grades are for, or certainly used to be for...

if they are not up to it - and i'm not saying they aren't - they should be demoted to learn and improve

the season isn't over yet and we shouldn't have the attitude that we are rebuilding and can just carry players all year IF they aren't performing

There is a reason why alot of Ex Parra players go onto better things at other clubs, let's not make the same mistake with Loko.

I agree. Better that he fine tunes his skills in the top grade than NYC or Ringrose. FMD Broncos blood kids all the time. They throw them in the deep end and they tend to swim.

In fact I'd even give POH a few runs as 17th man.

You are kidding right?

Ben Smith has been DREADFUL this year.

He would've been stood up by Barba twice as badly as Loko was...

Smith was the revolving door in the centers v cowboys - no surprise we went for a 'specialist' the following game.

Mate if you think Loko is better then Ben Smith in defense then your blind and stupid.

Idris and Champion have both murdered him.

We have enough defensive liabilities do we need another?
