The Real Intentions Of NEWSLTD

To everyone who watched the game back then, is it in a more secure position now that if a rebel comp was to form clubs wouldn't go near it?

Yes, however money does funny things to people.

We all remember the words of Mal "rugby league did nothing for me" Meninga
However the possibility of power also does strange things. If a club or RL board were offered more power, it’s not beyond them to leave (Brisbane & QRL) could be off in a flash IMO

More privately owned clubs means that a breakaway comp is more likely to be threatened and considered.

With members reduced to the status of customers in some clubs the temptation will be there. All they have to do is brand the new comp as 'elite'. We saw last time that there enough fools around that will believe the hype.

News won't rule out another rebel comp
Brad Walter

NEWS LTD is refusing to guarantee it will not start another Super League war because of uncertainty over the future of broadcast rights.

While News has offered to sign a non-compete clause for five years after its exit from the game, the Rupert Murdoch-owned media company will not guarantee that it will never form a Super League-type breakaway competition again.

I think the clubs would like to keep their options open too. When the tv rights expire in 2017, who knows what direction the NRL comp will be heading ( ie - relocation, expansion, scheduling etc ), plus the players have issues like the CBA to consider. I think they'll be happy that Fairfax are reporting it as a "possible Super-League-type breakaway" by News Ltd, that way the clubs & players don't have the pressure on them.

Why do we persist with this belief that NEWS LTD is our friend, NEWS LTD should be run out of Australia on a rail, its Papers and Pay interests should be broken up and sold.
Once Murdoch dies which I hope is soon the fight will be on over NEWS LTD carcass, tell them to piss off now, like it or lump it

What have you got to hide NEWS LTD?

Some News LTD journos have been saying that a non-compete clause would be pointless because there is no way it would happen again.

Well just sign the bloody thing if you've got nothing to hide!!!

Ok, so if the scumf**ks that are News Ltd wanted to bring this shit on........................again, lets review who would leave.

NOT GOING TO HAPPEN:
Newcastle - please, they have no need for Murdoch money, and as the union heartland showed last time with the case of the Mariners, they do not take too kindly to those that betray.
Wests Tigers - they wouldn't go there
Canberra - probably learned the lesson from last time............
Dragons - we told them to f**k off once, we'd tell them again just as quickly
Central Coast - Would be gladly welcome to the fold
Western Reds V2 - as above
Gold Coast - know what is good for them....
Parramatta - were loyal once and are basically like Newcastle, the locality wont tolerate this crap
Souths - wont but maybe should, best chance to win something
Roosters - bit pointless them not being in it

WOULD GIVE IT THOUGHT
Penrith - having some financial difficulties, would be tempted
Warriors- wouldn't surprise me
Nth QLD - as above
Canterbury - although I hope they too had learned from last time

WOULD BEND OVER INSTANTLY
$torm - no surprises there, and good f**king riddance - they'll do what their owners say anyway
Broncos - I'd hope they'd buck the status quo and stay loyal, something says that when push comes to shove they wont though
Cronulla - need all the help they can get

Yet you trust Canberra...

I also trust Canberra more than manly.

With the Furner's at the helm I don't think they'd go over (Dad was a loyal ARL man)

Manly systematically destroyed the Northern Eagles (as they had a majority on the board and they demanded that the licence revert back to the Manly Warringah RLC if the venture folded), this was written into the culbs constitution.

Manly have plenty of previous form.

Do I think Manly would go ? Nope, they were loyal once, that's good enough for me.

My list

Not a chance in hell
Manly, Newcastle, Dragons, Roosters, Raiders, Tigers, Parra

Would give it serious consideration
Souths, Cronulla, Gold Coast, Penrith, Canterbury, NZ

Off in a heartbeat
Broncs, Melbourne, Cowboys,

Sorry, there is no chance we would join any rebel competition.

The reasoning was purely based on you were screwed over once, and would do what is best for Souths to ensure survival.

I see your reasoning, but after what happened last time, we would never give them a leg up by turning our backs on the other clubs.

Further, if we could not play teams like the Roosters, Saints or the Tigers, what are we actually watching?

TBH I could understand if Souths did do it.

Brisbane's very own SL comp........ oh wait we all remember how that turned out.

The fact you're even having this purely hypothetical discussion just provides further reason why it's important to prevent this scenario.
