Brookvale upgrade

Here it is for those too lazy to click the link:
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/s ... 6092700301

THIS is the first look at a new design for the Brookvale Oval and Park.

The design, one of two drawn up by design team McGregor Coxall after almost a year of community consultation, seeks to use and extend the popular grassed hill around the Northern Beaches oval.

McGregor Coxall managing director Adrian McGregor said extending the hill helps to retain the suburban feel of the ground.

"It's a space for families to be able to sit and enjoy the game," Mr McGregor said.

"The hill is a famous icon at Brookie so (the plan) extends that and enlarges it. It also gives the whole oval a more green character."

Mr McGregor said that if the development was approved, the Warringah council would sell the southern portion of the site to raise money for the upgrade.

"What we're proposing is a sustainable village that will help fund the upgrade to the field and the new park," he said. "It's planned to be a mixed-use centre, with apartments, residential, retail and shopping, and commercial."

The main difference between the two designs is that one has a taller building, while the other has two longer buildings.

Stakeholders and a community committee will provide feedback, before a final option is presented for public exhibition.

Now:

^ Southern grandstand (Fulton - Menzies Stand, 1979, and Ken Arthurson Stand 1995) to be replaced with two residential towers

^ Western Grandstand (Jane Try Stand, 1971), replaced by a smaller grandstand and a hill, similar to Dairy Farmers Stadium.

^ Eastern Hill, to have a small hill and grandstand built.

This will not change capacity at all, if anything it will reduce it. It will be a 3 sided stadium, with all three dominated by hills. At a guess, I'd say capacity would be reduced to 18,000.

Brookvale is already amoung the smallest in the NRL - 22,000 on paper, but can't fit more than 20,000 max
(Toyota Park, Bluetongue Stadium being the other two at around 20,000 capacity. At least Bluetongue can be upgraded.)

It has by far and away the worst facilities. So the plan is to reduce and improve facilities, and reduce capacity. Right, thats planning for the future.

The Sunshine Coast or Sydney Football Stadium must look mighty attractive to the Sea Eagles.

An hour later and I'm still baffled by the walking path around the ground. Lower concourse like Newcastle had for all those years would be a better option.

It's abyssmal. Unfortunately the club little little to no say in it. The council own it and despite the fact it is currently used for nothing outside rugby league they don't want to allow the Manly club to make decisions. There has been talk of moving to Manly oval as Manly council appear to be far more accomodating. Warringah council want to make Broovale oval more multi-use but by doing this they will force Manly out and possibly replace them with the much lower profile Warringah Rats.

Like ref's that have never played the game and have no feel, this is clearly the result of someone with a good set of coloured pencils and a drawing degree, but has never attended a game of rugby league

God i remember when that corner stand was built, it was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread, i also remember it was going to have a shopping centre/mall attatched to it but it never happened. That stand should be wrapped around the eastern and southerns side with a lower concourse in front of it, anything less than that is pretty pathetic IMO. The sea eags deserve far better than that proposed piece of shit, I don't understand the councils motives for seemingly wanting to kick Manly out of brooky??? They may find more love elsewhere, sunny coast??? Would be a massive shame for that part of Sydney to lose it's team but what the hell are they meant to do?? Be dictated to by a bunch of elbow patched tweed jacket brigade?? f**king sickens me.

Poor Manly. In for a tough slog. The people in charge at Manly should seek out the brains trust who engineered the multiple and continual upgrades at Kogarah and Wollongong. And urgently.

^this.

They should be aiming for something similar. More stands not less you morons. One side hilled.

I'd say a move to Manly Oval would be more likely than deserting the Northern Beaches. Warringah council have NFI when it comes to sporting grounds, the Warringah Rats play in Pittwater and it could soon be the the Sea Eagles move to Manly leaving the largest of the 3 councils sitting in the middle with no recognised team playing in the area. Sunday's crowd shows that the support is there but people are getting sick of the condition of the place. Warringah council refuse to recognise what the Sea Eagles bring to the area.

That ground is rectangular Red. They canned the "multi use" part of it. Heres the stadium website: http://www.quadpark.com.au/about

But any NRL team on the Sunshine Coast won't play there - they have reserved a big patch of land for a future NRL stadium development and carpark, training facilities et cetera elsewhere.

Edit: thanks to Smithie, found it:

I only see three options if the Sea Eagles want to continue to be in the national competition, long term.

1. Play at the Sydney Football Stadium.
2. Play at Bluetongue Stadium on the Central Coast.
3. Plan a long term relocation to the Sunshine Coast by 2018. This would require a new 25,000-30,000 seat stadium on the SC, something that is already being considered click here.

As much as I hate Manly, after moving near the area last year it would be a shame to not have a team on the northern side of Sydney.

Hows North Sydney oval rate as a league ground lately? I haven't been there in years.

Warringah Council are pretty special, they have somehow managed to make the worst stadium in the NRL worse. Astonishing.

Disgraceful plans for the ground.

I wouldn't be surprised if the council wanted to kick RL out of the area altogether despite it being the most popular sport and most well attended.

Come to the SFS Sea Eagles.

The SFS Sea Eagles...
