The CSSC.

I can remember a great Monday night out to Jubilee in 2007 where the CSSC who were out in large numbers owned the joint, intimidated Dragons supporters and sang the boys home (and the fence down). At this stage CSSC functions were awesome, raucous nights out with a bunch of damn good blokes and they actually had an impact on the outcome of games. So much that after the game I mentioned Dykesy went on a rant in the press conference about how good the support was.

Fast forward to 2011 and its an exact fixture to the one above and I wonder what role will the CSSC play. Personally, I have moved on from that "style" of support but its good for the club to have a loud, thriving supporters group on hand to attend games like Monday.

That leads me to the question: Whats going on with the CSSC at the moment?

There have been several home games where the only section of empty seats in the reserved areas have been in "the cage". Its not a good look. Away games, attendances seem to be well down, and the TV cameras dont give much love anymore.

From what I understand, there are no original members of the committee (Dane Wheeler, Glen Thomo, Macca) left in any sort of leadership role.* Jimmy Small Hands is doing his best, but support seems to have deserted him and it looks more and more like the "army" of old. Which, when the CSSC was started, they did everything they possibly could to differentiate themselves from that group. I had a private word to Jimmy and he complained that the group has "lost its way a little bit" with its demographics and they had trouble these days recruiting younger fans. Considering that the club has wholeheartedly accepted the group (which is different from the foundation days) and you have the option to join with them through the clubs official membership documents, you would have thought that membership would have gone up and not down.

Anyone on here a member? Care to shed any light?

I would love to see it get back to the "glory days". Even though there was an ugly spat between LU and the CSSC, which has since been resolved, I maintain that it is important for the club to do the right thing and would hope that we can have a decent discussion on here.

* The committee is a volunteer role and a hell of a lot of work. I am not criticising these guys at all from taking a more passive role. I actually applied to go on the committee originally and missed out, at the time I was shitty but on reflection Im glad I did. I never had the time or gumption to put in the work required.

Newman - I took over as president a little earlier this year after Macca stood down. So I reckon I can offer a pretty reasonable response to the issues you've raised.

Pretty much everything you've outlined here are concerns that we're pretty well aware of, and are working to try to rectify.

1. The Cage - definitely agreed that the empty seats aren't a good look, but we've been working with the club to fix this for 2012. In part it's an issue with logistics and how the club has set up the Cage for casual attendees. The current system doesn't work but it should be sorted next year. Put simply, there shouldn't be a big block of empty seats next to the Cage next season.

2. Demographics - as you well know, it got pretty loose in the CSSC in the early days. I don't think we'll ever get back to that reckless level of partying, but we are working pretty hard to start attracting a new generation. I'm not going to blame footy results for a decline in numbers and younger members - I personally think that it's a cop out. In saying that, when we were winning, we didn't have to work too hard to make a day out at the footy into a fun experience. We're working pretty hard to make sure that win or lose, game day is a much more entertaining time for people who attend with the CSSC.

As you say, it's a lot of work. Our main focus recently has been trying to reduce the workload, streamline everything so that the committee can focus on the most important things about the CSSC - making game day a pretty sweet experience for everyone involved.

We're definitely not there yet, but looking from the inside out, I think we're starting to see some improvements and they will hopefully become more visible as we move ahead this season and on into 2012.

......and can you guarantee that the fence won't come down? ;-)

No plans to bring the fence down.... but no guarantees either. Depends on whether they've bothered to divert a few funds into building a half decent fence down there.

theyre committed.

you also have to consider that since becoming more incorporated with the club..the club near fell over and alot of those people are working hard behind the scenes helping the club survive..or doing what they can.

its probably not the same as

"beers. footy. fence crushing"
