I can remember a great Monday night out to Jubilee in 2007 where the CSSC who were out in large numbers owned the joint, intimidated Dragons supporters and sang the boys home (and the fence down). At this stage CSSC functions were awesome, raucous nights out with a bunch of damn good blokes and they actually had an impact on the outcome of games. So much that after the game I mentioned Dykesy went on a rant in the press conference about how good the support was.
Fast forward to 2011 and its an exact fixture to the one above and I wonder what role will the CSSC play. Personally, I have moved on from that "style" of support but its good for the club to have a loud, thriving supporters group on hand to attend games like Monday.
That leads me to the question: Whats going on with the CSSC at the moment?
There have been several home games where the only section of empty seats in the reserved areas have been in "the cage". Its not a good look. Away games, attendances seem to be well down, and the TV cameras dont give much love anymore.
From what I understand, there are no original members of the committee (Dane Wheeler, Glen Thomo, Macca) left in any sort of leadership role.* Jimmy Small Hands is doing his best, but support seems to have deserted him and it looks more and more like the "army" of old. Which, when the CSSC was started, they did everything they possibly could to differentiate themselves from that group. I had a private word to Jimmy and he complained that the group has "lost its way a little bit" with its demographics and they had trouble these days recruiting younger fans. Considering that the club has wholeheartedly accepted the group (which is different from the foundation days) and you have the option to join with them through the clubs official membership documents, you would have thought that membership would have gone up and not down.
Anyone on here a member? Care to shed any light?
I would love to see it get back to the "glory days". Even though there was an ugly spat between LU and the CSSC, which has since been resolved, I maintain that it is important for the club to do the right thing and would hope that we can have a decent discussion on here.
* The committee is a volunteer role and a hell of a lot of work. I am not criticising these guys at all from taking a more passive role. I actually applied to go on the committee originally and missed out, at the time I was shitty but on reflection Im glad I did. I never had the time or gumption to put in the work required.
