where did i say it was an excuse? it's a cause.

if he gets the proper help he needs and continues to mess up, then by all means, fire him.

until now the Roosters have only done the stop gap 'when can we get him back on the field but appear to be doing something' solutions. they haven't worked.

if they really want a fully fit and healthy Carney playing for them, they need to send him far away from Sydney and from the NRL until he's better.

if he relapses then it's a different story.

not everyone is built for the pressure of playing NRL footy. on field talent is only a small part of the equation. maybe he can't be saved, i don't know. but no one has really tried properly yet. he at least deserves that.
What a load of rubbish. The club has sent him to a number of specialists to try and help him out and got him into AA. There is only so much people can do without the person themselves wanting to be helped.

Carney is a party boy.....he will party and enjoy himself when and where he wants to.
Like the old Dire Straits song goes " money for nothing and chicks for free"
This is his problem, everything is free and easy for him now. Put in the real world with a real job and then see how well behave he will be.

Ah good, I could've sworn you were arguing facts... :sarcasm:

From our resident social media professional (MD):
Alcoholism = Mental Illness

You heard it here first!

i never said he was an alcoholic.

but yes, diseases of addiction and mental illness have a high rate of comorbidity so you're actually correct.

Regardless of what happens with the Roosters and his contract Noyce will make sure he is looked after and has access to the best help possible. For all his failings as a club CEO, and there are many, Noyce is a genuine human being with the best interests of the players at heart.

Whether Todd chooses to accept that help or not will be his own decision

so because those poor kids are being denied the treatment they so desperately need, we should deny Todd too? that's flawless logic.
Do Social Media Professionals need to have reading skills? I said these kids with genuine problems deserve treatment moreso than a moron like Carney.....and they are not getting any. Carney has never been denied treatment, he refuses the help that is offered him. Is that understandable to you now?

Dean - that's exactly the sort of attitude that contributes to the fact we have one of the highest rates of young male suicide in the whole world. hope you feel like a real hard ass.

Don't f**king mock me!

I have a condition!

do you exactly what he's been offered? i sure don't. none of us do. all my posts are pure speculation at this point.

Carney is an alcoholic (self admittedly), which is an addiction disorder (not a desease), but you just decided that he has a mental illness as a comorbidity.

Thanks for that wonderful insight doc.

want to see someone with a mental illness? look at Corey Patterson. he took time off himself (with the help of the knights) and got hismelf together. Look at Carney - constantly gets hismelf into toruble, had 33 breaches at canberra, has had several breaches at the roosters.

Carney may have a mental illness, he may have an addicition, from his constant behaviorual problems i'd say he's more likely to be a dickhead who was given everything on a plate from an early age because of his sporting ability and has never really been pulled into line for his actions.

yes, he had a year away and came back with a contract (probably a nice one) and won the Dally M and got an Australian jersey, has it taught him anything? obviously not. thats not the signs of someone struggling with mental illness its the sign of a dickhead more inetrested in doing what he wants to do aheead of his responsibilities

He does have a mental illness - he's f**king stupid.

Nevertheless, doesn't appear to have done anything but have a few beers? Not like he's pissing in peoples pockets or absconding from the law or anything.

Kiki, Todd has insight into his addiction, which from my view point as a health professional is not so much related to alcohol but having a good time, therefore it is up to him to seek treatment not the clubs. The roosters can point him in the right direction but ultimately it's up to him.

IMO Carney's biggest problem is the fact he has got a lot of time on his hands and a large disposable income. His income is also his saviour, many young blokes with his issues turn to crime to get their income to sustain their lifestyle.

THE greatest irony in all this is that four months ago Nate Myles wanted his Monday drinking buddy Todd Carney sacked from the club for good.

Politis has not spoken to Carney about this latest transgression but club sources say the troubled superstar left an emotional voice message with him on Tuesday night.
The call has not been returned and that in itself explains the depth of Politis's disappointment. Nobody has backed Todd Carney more than Nick Politis.

Politis was unavailable for comment last night but the way chief executive Steve Noyce was talking, Carney was hanging on by a thread.

"At times you need to draw a line in the sand and that has probably happened," Noyce said.

Politis does not consider Carney to be an evil soul, but the same could not be said about his opinion of Myles, who he considers a poisonous influence on his beloved club.

It is understood that about a week ago - before the non-drinking pact - Carney and halves partner Mitchell Pearce had drunk heavily before turning up for training the next day.

Bloody hell... I hate Easts as much as anyone but I'm not getting any pleasure out of this situation. I don't enjoy seeing a foundation club getting negative headline after negative headline. It isn't good for the game.

But the joint has a serious problems. A confessed alcoholic on an AA program who has sworn to the NRL ceo he won't drink anymore drinking regularly both with and without his clubs knowledge.

A "poison influence" as part of the leadership group. Going out of their way to pass get rid of one of their so called leaders to another club.

At first I thought he was no chance of getting sacked, but the way the club has talked this week, it's certainly a possibility.

People with this opinion are missing the forest for the trees.

Your attitude treats this as an isolated incident, but it is nothing like that. He swore to his mates, to his fellow players, and he couldn't be bothered keeping that promise for a week.

oh i'm sorry i wasn't aware i needed a medical degree to give my opinion on an internet forum. silly me.

anyone with any iota of life experience dealing with people suffering from depression and/or addiction can see the kid has serious problems.

he needs to help himself

dear Roosters : Todd Carney is clearly suffering a severe mental illness and/or addiction. he needs to be sent to a treatment facility. away from footy. if you want to keep him, send him far FAR away from football.

you should have done this at the start of the season. you reap what you sow.

Miniskirt MD

smh

He spent a year in Atherton

He spent a year with his head down in 2010

The club put him in outside programs to help him and to adjust his lifestyle. Whilst his "crime" here is breaking the trust of the leadership the guy is 25 years old and at some point in time will need to take control of his own life, I mean ffs his own manager came out and said it was all on him* so your pissant excuses of sending him off to Shangri-La when he is supposed to be working does nothing. Been there, done that.

You can't keep turning around and pointing at the club for the failings of a 25 year old man.

* I realise the manager is saving face publicly but the point remains.
