England got beaten by the Exiles earlier this year so I don't expect them to trouble OZ + NZ. But hope I am wrong. If England want to win the tournament they need to have clever tactics and execute perfectly. Or hope for horrific weather. We Aussies don't like snow much.

Is Leon Pryce still around? He looked pretty dangerous at 5/8 when playing there in previous tournaments.

Pretty poor example IMO. The kiwis look terrible every year in the mid season test and look like a whole different team at the end of the year.

I'm not saying England will even come close but their performance against the exiles doesn't tell us much.

My team from that would be

1 - Tomkins
2 - Briscoe
3 - Yeaman
4 - Reed
5 - Hall
6 - Widdop
7 - Chase
8 - Peacock
9 - Roby
10 - Graham
11 - Ellis
12 - Westwood
13 - Sinfield
14 - Heighington
15 - Carvell
16 - Morley
17 - Cudjoe

Only 9 of these played in the exiles game, wiht arguably our best players/most creative players missing i.e. Widdop, Chase, Roby and Ellis. Given Tomkins was also booed by the partizan home crowd whenever he touched the ball, I wouldn't say he was exactly firing on all cylinders either.

That game even had a half back combo of Sinfield and Myler - so I wouldn't read too much into the result.

I've put Cudjoe at 17 as I thought he did ok last year, kicked on again this year and can play cover 1-5, and could move into fullback and tomkins can cover 6/7.

It also means Heighington can replace sinfield who can also play 6,7 and 9 if required.

Much happier with the back line this year - Reed has had a good year, is strong in attack and defence, and much better than ablett who is a decent second rower at best. Yeaman has worked well with briscoe this year, and though not massively creative is strong in defence and is a work horse.

Pryce hasn't done much in a long time. He had alot of promise and isa very dynamic player but that never translated on the international scene. Last time I remember him making an impact against Australia would have been in 06, and even then he wasn't all that great.

Hasnt Pryce committed to Jamaica if they qualify or is that Karl Pryce?

Looking at that squad I dont give England much hope.

2001 I believe was one of their best players when they won the first test.

2009 Four Nations. Was awesome from hooker. Reminded me of Jason Smith in his Canberra Days. Slow, but on the flip side, plenty of time to read the game.

So now Lomax has pulled out. Does anyone know if he is actually injured or if it's one of those off-season surgery-so-he'll-be-right-for-next-season type of things that so many international players seem to get.

I don't understand why so many players opt out of test honours for little injuries. Whatever happened to it's every boys dream to play test football?

Lomax has torn ankle ligaments. McGuire has been called up as his replacement, which really is what should have happened in the first place. Regarding Leon Pryce - he's barely played this year due to injury, he was left out of the Grand Final side for St Helens and has signed for Catalans for next season. He's still one of the most dangerous players in Super League when fit but he seems to be out of favour with McNamara, God knows why. Don't know about Leon or Karl committing to Jamaica, but their cousin Wayne played last year in the Atlantic Cup.

He doesn't play for Leeds.
All we need now is for someone else to get injured and he can pick Kirke.

I hope the form Leeds found at half time in the cup final doesn't go away as quickly as it came or it could get messy.

Some truly terrible selections in that squad,

I wouldn't have Bailey anywhere near
Sinfield is a great domestic player but a non entity in internationals
JJB is nowhere near the quality required
Neither is Wilkin
BJB is one for the future but isn't ready yet
Ablet has had a good season but will get torn apart against the best centres in the world
McIlorum is very limited with ball in hand and is a poor DH player

Mossop, Brough, Harrison, Atkins, McGilvery, Robinson should all be in the squad

McNamara has selected poorly, instilled no confidence and doesn't have the ability or experience to coach a substandard squad in such a way that they'll perform above and beyond.

Why is Luke Burgess not mentioned.
I thought he was pretty good for Souths when he came over mid year.
Am I missing something?

That Burgess only got a start for Souffs because of injuries?

This is true but i felt he played better than the injured props anyway. He made great metres for souths.

Not saying he should have been picked for England but if i was souths i think i would be giving him a shot on the team next year.

Luke will probably make a decent NRL forward, but he couldn't get a game for Leeds and is nowhere near international class. To be honest I think prop would probably be the one position where Super League and the NRL are pretty evenly matched, although the loss of Graham may have swung that one in the NRL's favour now.

Bingo!

Josh Charnley wouldn't have gone astray there either.

And i'm embarrassed for anyone who thinks Ryan Bailey belongs in England squad. He should be setting pins in a bowling alley.

Re Kev Sinfield, he may not have dominated at international level, but you can hardly not pick him when he is so good in the domestic league. He's unflappable under pressure, makes time and is an out-an-out match winner. I think having busted-arse 'internationals' around him in the England team hardly helps his cause against the Aussies and Kiwis.

If a position is evenly match and then the loss of one player swings it in the opposite, it wasn't evenly matched then. Take the best prop from the NRL and while it'll be sad to see him go, he won't be missed, someone will replace him in the NRL.
