TAKE a good look at this man - he may not be so fresh-faced in a couple of years.
This is new South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire, who arrived at Redfern for the first time yesterday to reveal his plans and hopes for the next three years.
But Maguire is facing a monumental task. The last coach to win a title with Souths was legendary Clive Churchill back in 1971. Since then, have seen 16 coaches come and go without success.
"I understand all the pressure and expectation involved in a big club like Souths," Maguire said. "The history when you walk around the club, in the gym and look at all the facilities they've got here, you see everything.
"I am lucky and fortunate coaching at a club like this.
"We want to move forward as a group and take on board the things I will bring. Hopefully there are exciting times ahead at Souths. We are aiming to improve and want to work really hard pre-season to implement a number of things. I am a coach that likes to think outside the square."
Maguire revealed he had spoken a number of times to famous co-owner Russell Crowe. But the new coach harboured no fears Crowe would interfere in the day-to-day coaching program.
"It's not an issue at all. At the end of the day, I should be able to utilise him and the experience he has had," Maguire said.
"Everything I have had to do (with Crowe) has shown he only wants to take the club forward. He is very passionate about it but has allowed me to do what I want to do with the club. He has his own ideas but is very willing about myself coming into the place."
Then asked had a line been drawn in the sand, Maguire said: "We have both spoken about it and understand the roles we want to play. I am sure we will continually talk about things in days to come."
Souths started training yesterday for season 2012 with star recruit Matt King to arrive in a fortnight.
But Souths' greatest issue this season will be finding success without a recognised halfback after Chris Sandow's departure to Parramatta.https://twitter.com/#!/telegraph_sport
