Very likely that the Limerick game is against Fiji - safe to assume Australia and England games will be in English RL heartland regions to maximise attendence.

2. France play NZ, PNG and Samoa.
I'd assume PNG and Samoa to be played in France. France vs NZ in England for NZ attendence potential.

3. Wales play USA, Cook Islands and Italy.
All 3 in Wales or Just 2?

If Wrexham and Neath hosted one game each and then one game could be in a double header at the Millenium Stadium for the opening, which has been rumoured.

It will be interesting to see the finals format. You would think if Wales top their group then they would want it to be played in Wrexham.

Today’s announcement outlines 18 different venues which will stage matches and reveals six other venues which will host teams during the tournament. Details of the venues for the opening ceremony, the semi-finals and the final will be confirmed early in the New Year.

Biggest stadium in Bristol is Ashton Gate, cap 22,000. A new stadium for Bristol has been mooted for a long time, but nothing yet. Still, good stadium imo... Memorial Stadium has 12,000...its quaint.

Agree with Doncaster and Gateshead. They've gone for smaller capacities though, so that rules out Sheffield. Short of England playing, it'd be a horrible choice.

Just saw one of the earlier posts where roughy said it was the Memorial that got the nod.

The WC should look really good with the venues though. Good planning imo, smart. Unlike our WC where we pretty much know exactly which venues to use cos we only have so many, theyve got a good range over there. Will be the best WC yet with these venues.

I think it would be fair to assume that Wales will play 2 of their group games at Neath and Wrexham, and if as expected they qualify for a quarterfinal, it will be played at Wrexham against I would assume either the winner of Group A or Group B, most likely either Australia or New Zealand.

With one team being based in Bristol, I would think it would be most likely the team that would also play Wales in Neath, therefore either one of Cook Islands, USA or Italy.
If so, the Bristol match would most likely be Cook Islands v USA, or possibly Italy v Tonga or Italy v Scotland.

But what I really want to know are the dates and venues for the semifinals and final, as they are the matches that I am most likely going to come over to see. Got to start planning and saving up early :crazy:

Again, it would be reasonable ( I think) to assume that France will play their home group games at Avignon and Perpignan against Papua New Guinea and Samoa (although not necessarily in that order).
Their game against New Zealand would therefore be their only group game in England, I would think at one of the larger venues, like the KC Stadium in Hull, Headingly Leeds, or Galpharm Huddersfield.
Aside from a likely quarterfinal and possible semifinal for France, it would make sense for them to be based at or near the group game venue for New Zealand, i.e., Hull or Leeds.

Really annoyed about the fact that matches are being played in Ireland and France. This is supposed to be a WC held in England and Wales, why do those teams also get home advantage? Say France host a WC in the future, does this mean that England will be able to play their matches at home? What about the next WC, say it's in NZ, will Australia and PNG get to play their matches at home? It's just absolute stupidity, this is the sort of thing that makes international RL into a joke and I'm not at all convinced that the RFL have learned any lessons from 2000.

I understand what your saying but I reckon its a little bit of an overreaction. Im just happy that multiple countries get to share in the experience. No doubt it will help development in Wales, Ireland and France. Bigger picture looks good.

No, it's not an overreaction at all. The fact that people don't see the problem with this is symbolic of just how pathetic this sport is at international level, it's run by f**king geniuss who don't have a clue.
