At least Hogg could turn it and he had a decent wrongun. Hauritz was plain boring.

Not to mention Hogg had one of the best flippers that would even make Shane Warne envious, and he was still able to produce it at 36 when India last toured here. Warne couldn't bowl it after he had the first shoulder operation in 1998.

Regarding Hauritz, Hauritz is Australia's version of Richard Dawson. Couldn't turn his way out of a Kings Cross nightclub. I know someone mentioned Dawson's name in the "worst players to play cricket" thread. Only on a few occasions was Hauritz able to turn the ball, and even then, only 1-2cm more than the pies Dawson threw down for England. To think that Graeme Swann had to play second fiddle to Dawson for a period of time in the 2000s is as laughable as the Australian selectors relying on Hauritz to carry the test team for 2 years.

You mean besides better control, more dip and drift? Lyon is a much better spinner than Hauritz, form against India ain't exactly the whole story.

He was given plenty of opportunities, he seems to have lost all confidence in his bowling, he rarely bowled himself when he was skipper. It's a pity, his batting is explosive.
