It will be interesting to see how many players Pricey will name for this trial against the dogs. If his going to pllay two different teams for each half I assume he'll name about 40 players.

Trial 'no worries' for Top Dog Des Hasler
RUGBY LEAGUE By SAM HALL Tue, Jan 31 2012

Bulldogs coach Des Hasler will have his first outing in that role on Saturday at WIN Stadium. Picture: FAIRFAX

Newly installed Bulldogs coach Des Hasler will make his first appearance as the club's leader when the side takes on a scaled-down St George Illawarra outfit at WIN Stadium on Saturday night.
The dual-premiership winner will travel to Wollongong for what will be his first outing as Canterbury coach since a tumultuous parting of ways with Manly last year.
The Dragons and the Bulldogs are today expected to nominate under-strength rosters when they announce their teams for the annual clash.
Distinguished Kangaroos and NSW Origin forward Steve Roach, who was Hasler's assistant for three years at Manly from 2004, believes his former colleague will take no time at all to settle into the blue and white of the Bulldogs.
"He's unbelievably dedicated to the cause now he's at the Bulldogs, just as he was when coaching at Manly," Roach said of Hasler (pictured).
"He's a professional coach and trials are exactly that: trials. I don't think he'll be worried about it in the slightest."
Despite the nature of the annual trial, Roach expects Hasler's competitive streak to play some part in the Bulldogs' approach to the match.
"I'm sure he'd love to win. It doesn't matter whether you play tiddlywinks, Dessy's that sort of bloke," Roach said.
"He's a highly competitive coach, definitely."
Both the Dragons and Bulldogs are expected to today announce teams largely void of NRL-experienced players.
The Dragons will field the majority of Paul McGregor's Illawarra NSW Cup side while Hasler is expected to blood several new faces in the Bulldogs side.
Automatic player scratchings from the game include the Dragons hooker Nathan Fien and winger Jason Nightingale - both playing in the NRL All Stars side the same night - and captain Ben Hornby, who succumbed to a thigh injury during training last week.
The Bulldogs, too, will be without Frank Pritchard (NRL All Stars) and Ben Barba (Indigenous All Stars).
The Dragons won last year’s equivalent trial against the Bulldogs 28-14.
Meanwhile, St George Illawarra have been extended to $15 outsiders (TAB Sportsbet) to win this year’s premiership. Wests Tigers remain favourites ($8), closely followed by Manly, Melbourne and Newcastle ($9).

The side was announced today. Vidot and Gower the only players in the team with real chances of first grade. I didn't even see kemps name listed

Its basically a trial for Illawarra to be honest the guys added by the Dragons will have to prove their worth.

I have to say though the 22 players the Illawarra have signed will make a competitive team lost of familiar faces from the NYC from 2010 and 2011 Simon Maslaska, Jarrod Boyle. Mark Asquith, Nathan Jones, David Catteral, Tim Moore, Jarrod Thompson and Chris Astill.

The rest are all reps from last years CRL team that lost to Newcastle but won three titles previous.

Misuse of a trial IMO. Bulldogs will probably name a similarly obscure side. The public are being treated like drunks at the cricket. Not good.

The most interesting part of the article, for me, was this quote above^^. Are Wests honestly favourites:?.

IMO the Tigers are very overrated. Probably the only team in the semis in the last 5 or so years that just seem incapable of going that extra step to the big one. Rely way too much on Marshall and have offloadled some quality depth in the forwards to pay overs for a kiwi who goes missing in action in big games. That clown Moltzen will regret his backflip big time.

Couldn't agree more with everything you said.

1 extra big forward & the Tigs are favourites. Typical hype. Top 4 at best, if a key spine player got injured or a few forwards had similar problems they'd be stuffed come the business end of season yet again...

i agree. i was considering going but won't be wasting my time now.
price following bennett's lead hey... well bennett never tanked a trial with a dud side. nice psychological start to be rolled by 30 plus in a trial... not.

STG, we never had a newly formed NSW Cup team under Bennett either. Make no mistake, this has very little if anything to do with combinations and everything to do with placements for spots in that team. Relax dude

You can't be serious. 3 players at most in that squad have a hope of being near the first grade team for round one.

Perhaps Price has opted against playing 3 full trials due to the fatigue-driven slide we suffered at the end of 2011

Guys we all know the odds change after every single game. If we win 3 in a row we'll be $9.

The tigers will have issues at fullback IMO. Moltzen at half leaves the fullback spot open. Maybe lote will get a crack. But depth in backs is not great for them, particularly in key areas. Could be their undoing.

Team for this weeks TRIAL. I think the word trial gives a clue what this game is all about. Why should the likes of KStanley, Nightingale, Morris, Cooper, Soward etc etc, need to trial for a spot in first grade? They will get one or two games to blow the cobwebs out before round 1, which is all they should need.

So what if Dogs pick their best squad and win by 100 points. I can assure you they won't get 2 points for the win. At least Pricey and Folkes will get some sort of idea of which guys are possible fill ins for firsts if required.

As Guy Sebastion says.....don't worry, be happy.
