i agree. i was considering going but won't be wasting my time now.
price following bennett's lead hey... well bennett never tanked a trial with a dud side. nice psychological start to be rolled by 30 plus in a trial... not.
price 0/1

2011 - February - First grade squad required to travel O/S for WCC.

2011 - May-July - Record number in ages of Saints players picked for Origin

2011 - Finals series, played back-to-back weeks.

And you expect them to be busting their balls in front of what's probably a nuffy Bogs squad anyway in the Gong in front of bugger all with a torn-off stand? With the CS and another trial around the corner to add to that? Look at the glass a little differently if you can...

Look sure we all want the Dragons to win every time they take the field. But the reality is neither we nor any other side is going to go through 100% of their games this year undefeated. If we lose all 3 trials so what? The trials are the right time to take a look at what's in the lower grades, and plan for the season proper.

The time to start building momentum is Round 1 against the mob who stole our coach.

Misuse of a trial IMO. Bulldogs will probably name a similarly obscure side. The public are being treated like drunks at the cricket. Not good.

fear not, seems like the clubs have agreed to use this trial for the same purpose :

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs will field an exciting array of up and coming talent in Saturday’s opening trial match against the St. George-Illawarra Dragons at WIN Stadium, Wollongong.

Coach Des Hasler has named NRL experience in forwards Jake Foster, Marty Taupau, Tim Browne and at halfback Trent Cutler, who will combine with a host of names from the Club’s NSW Cup and Toyota Cup programs in the annual Mercury Challenge fixture.

The main game kicks off at 6pm with the Toyota Cup fixture – which sees Andy Patmore’s 29-man squad taking on a Dragons side coached by former Bulldogs NSW Cup coach Justin Holbrook – kicks off at 4pm.

? Thats exactly my point. Both clubs have hijacked the Mercury Challenge for their own purposes. More of a mistrial than a trial.

Im all for blooding some young players, I want to see what we have coming through, better to do it now than to be experimenting when it counts.

Win/Lose is not critical, even though we all hate to lose obviously!

The thing that really irks me is that they charge fans to go to these trials...I mean c'mon??!! You shouldn't have to purchase tickets to see these types of matches.

It's only $5 and $10 BBC so it will barely pay for the OH&S crew to keep an eye on the Stadium roof

Why call them dud sides. All NRL teams require more than 17 players, and obviously they cant all be superstars. Every club needs backup players to fill the void when stars get injured. These kids on trying to make it in the big league need to start somewhere....and the older guys who still have something to offer and experience to pass on, they need to trial to show the coaches what they can still do.

I, like most, am a Dragons.....ie. a fan of any player wearing the mighty red v. Support the club, not just the 17 who get selected for 1st grade every week. Maybe I am too old school. I preferred the comp when there were 3 grades playing at the ground on the same day. Always interested in seeing the Dragons lesser lights strutting their stuff, so always turned up earlier enough to watch all 3 grades. I can't believe how many fans turn up right on kickoff of the main game these days.

So....can you please not refer to them as duds?
