RLW Predictions

Joel Gould, must be son of phil.

Don't know how anyone can say we don't have depth, we have plenty. We even have depth in the outside backs except our top four aren't much better than the next 4. Unlike most teams that have a couple of stars but struggle if they get injured.

Clubs do take time to turn around. But we were better in 2011 than the year before and the same for 2010 compared to 2009 so maybe we are heading in the right direction (baby steps). I cant see the loss of LD and KS being the difference between 13th and 16th for us really. I mean other clubs have lost coaches as well as key players so why arent they contenders for last as far as the media are concerned. Wozza on Pox picked us not to make the 8 in 2009 after being equal first in 2008. Everyone laughed at him (me inlcuded). He was spot on. He cited the additonal ref speeding the play the ball up as our achiles heal (under RS). Anyone know what his prediction is for the year?

I bought RLW for the first (and last) time in ages today. It has definately gone downhill. Anyway none of the so called experts tipped the Sharks to make the 8 and 3 of them tipped us for the spoon.

For the record I think we will make 8 and if we don't get injuries or get derailed by any off field issues I reckon we can make the top 4.

I took the $2.70 for the top 8 before it came down to $2.10 a few days ago.

Good summary, RLW is legless why by any mag when all the info and much more is online?

We are the same old same old apparently.

9 tipsters and none of them tipped us for the 8.

The "three wise men" who tipped us for the spoon were Martin Lenehan, Joel Gould & Steve Mascord.

Steve Mascord on why we will finish last.

"The Sharks have lost two of the game's best forwards in Kade Snowden and Luke Douglas. If Bryce Gibbs and Andrew Fifita can equal those two, the Sharks won't sink to the bottom. But that's a big ask.

Joel Gould on why we will finish last.

Todd Carney won't be enough to get the Sharks up the table, who are still far too reliant on Paul Gallen and lack depth. While the Eels and Titans have bought well, the Sharks have not fared as well in the player market."

Martin Lenehan on why we will finish last.

Paul Gallen will continue to inspire and Todd Carney may well fire, but it won't be enough for Cronulla to avoid their first spoon since 1969.

They've certainly got the brains trust at RLW.........

How the f**k does Joel Gould know we will be far too reliant on Paul Gallen when a ball hasn't been kicked yet in the Premiership?????

FMD!

You have a stronger team than previous years and they're tipping you to finish lower? Rubbish predictions.

Remember it quite well Mad. He sat there with Laurie Daley, Wiz and Brandy as they went through their 2009 predictions. He kicked off the show with a spiel about the panel putting together their predictions and then commented straight up "... and I will tell you all why I don’t believe Cronulla will make the 8 later in the program". Daley replied "oh don’t worry they’ll be there alright" and moved on to some other shit. When the segment came up and is was Woz's turn to run through his predictions he clarified citing the reason the Sharks had done so well in 08 was on the back of RS's defensive style which was reliant on slowing the play the ball. The introduction of the second ref would remove that advantage and he couldn't see us outscoring other sides, nor RS adapting quickly enough. Everyone rubished him but the writing was on the wall 1/3 of the way through the season when we were 1 or maybe from 2 about 9 (not sure about the actual stats). Unbelievable hey! I’ve headed his word ever since.

Serious finals predictions should be made in the week leading up to round 1 after trials have been played. Whilst trials aren't a great indicator of finishing position, they can help determine if a team will be closer to 1st or last.

They mustve picked there predictions before our trial because surely we wouldn't have had 3 tipping us for the spoon then.

If anyone can predict who finsihes where, the clubs that did well last year have either lost players or are a year older. The bottom half of the table recruited well, look stronger and competitve ( not sure about the Panthers).

Being honest, the top 4 and bottom 4 , you could pick one and they end up at the other end of the table, thats what it looks like currently

I don't pay these 'gurus' much attention, particularly before the season has even started. At least this guy had a sensible reason for his prediction - and was then proven correct. Better than most of the other muppets already!

Yeah with ya. I can digest it a bit better when the reasons are sensible. I mean are we really gonna miss Snowman that much? He was injured for a while last year and we got by. May have even won a couple without him. He played like a busted after he signed with the Noughts from memeory. Dougie...well i spose the proof will be in the pudding but if we have current players like Mcrone (ref Plasterds post a couple of weeks back) talking our signings up that says way more to me than anything else.

Yeah Snowy was a passenger last year. We should have sent him to Newcastle the minute he signed with the Knights, cause he did nothing for us. I think he was only picked on past form and name, yet a stack of other guys would've been better options IMO.
Dougie on the other hand I like, though he's more of a toiler than anything else. I think our new forward signings will adequately cover them!

Snowy and dougies play the ball speed was terrible. That was one reason our attack was always so stifled. We always had a set defensive line In front of us.

Cordoba may have a fast play the ball but he is a liability in defense with how slow he moves and finess wise. He struggles with the pace of the game so is forced to try and slow te play the ball resulting in penalties. He was a shocker for giving away dumb penalties last year along with tautai.

I'm pretty happy with the changes to the front row to be honest, but only game time will prove if they are good replacements for Snowy and Dougie.
Have to admit, I never really likes Gibbs, always thought he was a grub... now he's in our jumper I love the bloke! lol

I reckon one of our biggest coups was getting Degwah back. Quick play the ball is great but if dummy half cant capitalise its a shit sandwich. He's the key for mine to releasing the potential of our new forwards. We have been a bit hit and miss since he left TBH. Hughes, Morris, Aiton all great on their day but lacked that consistant perfromance. Hope Degwah doesnt go the same way. Robson...well he might be a boon for us who knows.

just read the rlw "predictions" - they actually pay those blokes to write about footy ffs!!

apart from deathriding us, they draw some pretty way out conclusions as to spoons, premiers etc.

just have to prove the nuffy merkins wrong i suppose.

go the sharks.

Don't kno about Snowden but that used to shit me about Dougie.

Never any urgency to play the ball.

I'm a fan of his too, but... worried about the injuries he seems to suffer regularly.
