I'll be sad to see him go. A big loss no doubt. Thankfully we have a lot of forward depth currently and will surely have available funds to sign a player or two this year.

Well said I'm pretty sure we can make a significant signing or two for next season.

Matt Prior, Dean Young, Ben Creagh, De Belin amongst others is still very good depth in the backrow and who knows who else we may sign.

You know what I find the most confusing in all this? The fact that bbc bitched, whinged and moaned about our club not buying star imports, which would require allowing current star Dragons being let go. And when they do let a large chunk of our cap go by refusing to match a rivals offer for one of our ageing stars, he starts bitching again. Deadset, the biggest drama queen on this site.....

We cant sign Cronk or Stewarts by cutting Prior, Einstein.

DONT PANIC!!!!!!
I think Price was aware of all this movement hence Scott in the Centres!! he's been grooming a forward pack without Scott and young Debellin will be just right next year to slot next to Creagh!! Im not perturbed at all..the way Scott defended against Knights he was a damn liability....too slow, too small, cant break a line!! ! yes he has aggression but 2nd rowers nowadays are built like Burgess, Ellis, Williams, Sonny Bill - BIG, LINE BREAKING, QUICK, AND AGGRESSIVE!! Debelin and Creagh have these elements!!
Im not concerned - we got the best out of him...Newcastle are panicking and Bennett is obviously a fan of what he did w the Dragons as hes trying to build a mini Dragons team...hell as Soward said last week "it was scary watching the Knights warm up - it was like watching ourselves in the mirror" Albeit a 2nd rate version...IM NOT PERTURBED NOR SHOULD US THE FANS!!!!

I have to admit I too was surprised and perturbed to hear this news tonight (during the Ch9 game).

Now...(3 or 4 hours later).
I remain concerned, but sort of agree with what MickeyLane, EbbedFred and others have been saying.

Essentially, that life goes on via Creagh, Merrin, DeBelin etc.
I am not happy about it.
No!
But if Scott, asked for "too much".... well.. so be it.

Also, this could be when Folkes earns his keep.

Forget mongrel.
We don't want players like Pritchard or Whatmough.
We just need the players we have channelling their AGGRESSION and STEEL.

And Folkes is The Man for that.

Our two Steves have different strengths.
Together, they may just be the complete coaching package.
( I certainly hope so...... )

PS:
a contact on Newcastle Council told me some months ago that Wayne had applied to build four more bedrooms onto the house he was renting!
So this should make Scott his last raid on the Dragons.

IT HAD BETTER BE WAYNE ! ! ! ! !

Beau Scott was targeted last year by the Bennett Knights..However, they couldn't accommodate him under the cap due to his price target..Beau wanted to come to the Knights anyway with Boyd however he had to wait 12 months for that wish as advised by Mr Bennett to do so...Dragons knew this..

Well i guess it explains why he was so bad last week, his mind wasnt on the job but on the fact that he was about to crap on his mates and all the Dragons fans.

$450k a year, FMD. Well played Beau.

So theyll she'd a few fringe players to fit beau in. He's that important to a team
It's all well and good to say that's too much for him, but managing the cap is an art form.
Wayne knows what he's doin. Players also obviously want to play under him.

There's been a lot of discussion about bought not bred. For the record I dog agree with this. Im all for born and bred players. I just don't think that's an excuse to hold on to someone for too long if they are not performing. I don't believe in rebuilding years. Every year we should have a team that can win.
That's where smart management of the cap comes in. We have lost a lot of top quality the last 2 years.
Beau Scott is a bitter pill to swallow. Im sure we'll buy some players now though. Right??

Wow, I've found there's 3 things in life you can count on 1) death 2) taxes, and 3) BBC whinging and claiming the end of the world any chance he gets.

I'm not happy about losing Beau Scott, but with the emergence of De Belin, Merrin etc someone had to go.

Beau Scott came to us as a 2nd rate player and in the Red V he developed into a marquee player. He's given us great service over the years, helped us to 2 Minor Premierships and that elusive Premiership. He was offered another contract, but elected to take more money to go elsewhere. At this stage of his career I can understand his desire to set himself up financially and I wish him all the best.

Personally, at this stage I'd much rather lose Beau Scott than Creagh, Young, De Belin, Prior or Merrin so I applaud Doust's handling of the negotiations and prioritizing the retention of our younger juniors and club stalwarts.

Unfortunately, in this day and age of the salary cap, winning a Premiership causes player values to go up and squads to be torn apart. Happens to everyone. I mean, we had something like 8 or 9 players play in State of Origin last year. We simply can't keep them all. I think Manly fans are even worse off then us right now by facing the reality that they will probably lose one of their favorite sons in Brett Stewart.

We have the most fertile junior base in the NRL, we lose players, we develop more. We don't need to play cheque book Rugby League. We have 2 emerging forwards by the names of Merrin and De Belin that other clubs would break the bank for if they had the chance, so let's just cout our losses with a guy like Beau Scott.

The importance and quality of Scott is obviously lost on you then?

Young will retire soon. So will cooper, hornby. That's a lot of experience. You say we had to let someone go??

What about all the players we just bought... Matthews, latimore, vidot, kemp, Stanley, miller, vea, ah mau. Hmmm OK. Only 1 or 2 of these blokes have played first grade for us yet. That's a big recruitment drive for the cutters!!!

People will move on, but as long as prior is on our team and bea Scott isnt... I will be mystified.

I said in the 'Beau to Parra' thread that we shouldn't pay overs for Beau, & I stand by that - but I'm f**king gutted about this.

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-league/league-news/scott-signs-2m-deal-at-knights-20120309-1uq9r.html

KNIGHTS coach Wayne Bennett has poached another of St George Illawarra's international stars, adding Beau Scott to the growing collection of former Dragons to follow him to Newcastle.
The man who guided the Dragons to premiership glory in 2010 has dealt his former club another huge blow just days into the first season of the post-Bennett era, luring their enforcer to Newcastle next season.
The NSW and Australian back-rower has agreed to a lucrative four-year deal, which the Herald understands has riled St George Illawarra, who have now lost Scott, Darius Boyd, Adam Cuthbertson and boom rookie Alex McKinnon to the Knights since Bennett announced he would be joining them last year.

The Dragons were desperate to retain their rep star but the appeal of rejoining Bennett on a contract believed to be worth close to $2 million for four years proved impossible for Scott to turn down.
The Herald understands Scott finalised the deal with the Knights last week, but it remains unclear whether he informed his teammates of the decision.
His manager, Steve Gillis, said last night that Scott informed the Dragons' senior playing group of his decision earlier this week, before informing the rest of his teammates following yesterday's training session at WIN Stadium.
But one Dragons player told the Herald last night: ''I didn't even know anything about that … I was watching the [Friday night] footy and heard them talk about it, then I checked my phone. There's been no talk about it at training.''
Either way, the announcement will come as a shock to the Dragons and their supporters, especially given the timing, only 24 hours before their round two match against the Bulldogs.
Scott had been in negotiations with the Dragons, Knights and ''three or four other clubs'', for months, according to Gillis.

Not sure how anyone could be critical of the Dragons management. There is no way you would pay Beau Scott 450-500k. Good luck to him.

Beau Scott is overrated. He has always had poor handling. Sure, he is aggressive but don't you want that from a backrower. He does not bend the line backwards in either attack or defence. He was a modest player bought from Cronulla who Bennett turned into a good player. No more than that. He is worth about $250K a season at best. Good luck to him for taking the moeny on offer. Recrutiment like this will kill the Knights. He is no where near a marquee player and they will find managing the salary cap a killer. Our priority is Merrin, De Bellin, Stockwell, King, Rein and these kids. What is super important now is how we spend the rivers of cash we are going to have now. Sign a quality halfback at any cost. My biggest issue with announcements like this is the impact it can have on the morale. We have only played one game and we are losing a good first grader for next year. NRL fans hate this aspect of the game and in this respect the AFL trade period is a much cleaner process and it is conducted after the season is over. This is a blight on our game and robs supporters of teams. It is not the players fault, or the player agents fault, it is the fault of the NRL and it must be addressed.

Bennet said that he builds clubs, not into destroying clubs, well he is showing his true self. And judging by Scotts poor game v the Knights he must have had other things on his mind.I am going to give our club the benefit of the doubt in this decision, they bought Bennett to the club and we had success so i am hoping they are planning to sign some quality in the next couple of seasons.
We did get the best out of Scott so hopefully the Knights get the worst out of Scott.ie shit offloads, and stupid penalties.
