Does anything make money on the gold coast? Every person in Australia would know of somebody that has done their dough up there in real estate or some other seedy operation. Not to mention soccer teams and quite a few NRL teams too.

Dont get me wrong I dont mind the place. I always have a good time up there. but anyone investing big bucks up there is foolish or dodgy IMO

Exactly. That is where all the debt is. They built a big fancy facility after being in the competition 1 year. They didn't have the money in the bank and they bit of more then they can chew.

yet still we have idiots replying who seem to have not even bothered to read what the problem is

As a Titans season ticket holder from day one, it makes me sick that the Titans are in the news for all the wrong reasons at the moment.

As has been pointed out the COE is the centre of the problem. I don't know how Searle is going to sell it given he can't even lease it.
It's a fairly big building, kinda hard to shift to a better, more accessible location. On the other hand it is close to the train station.
Big selling point right there

What the Titans should have done with the money put into the COE is bought management rights to skilled park like AFL did with there new stadium. Crowds would have been up, I suspect performance would have been up as these off field issues wouldn't be such a huge distraction etc.
Get the right management into the Titans making good decisions and we'll be fine.

You would have pretty big crowds if you had a stadium on Chevron Island.

Of course you would have to demolish the rest of the Island but whatevs.

just about the worse outcome you can have would be to destroy 5 years of brand development and what little credibility NRL sides have on the GC after previous failures. Better outcome would be an investment by the ARLC under the proviso that a strong governance system and new board be implemented. The Titans have a strong fanbase and corporate support, why would you throw that away to start again?

farkin farcical the NRL allowed them in and continue to compete without the organisation having a proper corporate governance setup. No doubt, a proper setup would not have allowed an ego-driven rogue commit to a project such as the cost of the CoE so early in the organisation's life.

and i cant believe the articles in the media today stated that one of the NRL's options are to let the Titans die. WTF? This is the 4th attempt at branding a GC team at the highest level of rugby league, and despite this setback, I'd say the Titans brand is still relatively strong. If this shit is left to fester into the season though, well then it will drag it through the mud and that's what the club and the NRL can ill afford, particularly with the Suns having great setup with mgmt rights to their ground, and having much of the promotion and pr controlled by the AFL.

This stuff up comes back to the NRL. With a 4th attempt at making a team on GC work, they shouldve taken more responsibility in the clubs foundations and ensured there was effective oversight into the business and investments of the organisation rather than leave it in the hands of one bloke.

And there is no way I'll believe that the Titans will be profitable medium to long term with crowds under 15k at a venue they pay $300k in rental from Stadiums QLD. The honeymoon up there is over, especially if they have another season like last year.

the NRL tipping in some dough for the contruction couldve achieved this.

When are the NRL going to realise that they're up against an competitor which is serious about expansion and will do all they can to make it work? The AFL are having a huge input in their new clubs foundation contracts and have negotiated investments to give them best chance of succeeding financially in the medium to long term.

The NRL have just taken the cash for the license and washed their hands of the operation up there allowing the progress of an affiliate in an important market to be handled by one bloke like it was his hobby.

What the Titans need is a level playing field with the Suns and we'll blow 'em out of the water!
i've heard that before. the statement is probably true, but it means shit while the playing field isnt even.

Success in any business comes down to having sustainable competitive advantage over your rival. The AFL have equipped the Suns with a huge competitive advantage over the Titans. They can get by with less patrons at their ground to make a buck. They can make a buck with other events at their ground instead of football. They have a board overseeing compliance and deciding on strategic options. And they're being funded by the AFL who expect any financial losses in the short-term and are willing to fund it.

The NRL are sitting on their hands and 'monitoring the situation'. What farkin joke.

As if the Titans football club are making money. Virtually only the Broncos do & they are 1 of a kind & besides with searle in charge, they definitely wouldn't be profitable.

They tried to become too big too early.

I have great faith that they get back on track though.

The ARLC will not let expansion clubs die, especially one such as strategically important as the Gold Coast. Rugby league has learn't its lessons in that regard.

I don't think anyone would be opposed to the NRL taking over the Titans license, appointing a board and GOOD CEO. (Sorry Ozzie, or Searle - you've lost the genius tag. sorry).

Good management making good decisions off field = win.

As alWays people r overreacting - the football club is making money no one has ever questioned it isn't -the Coe has debts but they are less then the value and it will be sold off this is a. Ash flow problem is all and as for Searle we he put his cash down of course he should run the thing -I mean it's not like lolsouths make money but no one wants to sack rusty . As for the titans looking for the best players if they weren't Searle should be sacked because u only make money winning games and that takes the right players what do people want him to buy reserve graders and loose every game

WTF is a centre of excellence anyway?

Its an education and welfare centre and a high performance gym. Its produced a huge majority of stars that have come through their highly performing NYC juggernaught.

This is it

Nah thats not it, I think their's half a chance someone could sell that. I've no idea how Searle is going to sell his spoon factory.

The property arm goes into administration.

The NRL then can buy this business for a reduced fee.

The Titans RLFC then pay a commercial rent they can afford to the NRL. This depends on who takes what from game day profits and pays for upkeep. THis would likely be a low rent with the Titans in charge of maintenance but getting the profits.

The NRL have a nice facility on the Gold Coast.

They can lease it for other events (football, concerts).

Everyone is a winner.

It's off topic, but I remember seeing an iSelect ad not long ago with that stupid dude in it and the Titans players all standing in a line, and at the end of the ad the stupid dude goes 'I love football.... GOAAAAALLLLLLLLLL!'.

I couldn't stop laughing for ages but haven't seen it since. Did they take it off or something?

what?

they don't own the stadium. you think you can play an NRL game in this
titans-centre-5755980.jpg
:shock::lol::oops:

Don't they? Oh well. Who does (out of interest)?

NRL buy that facility of the defaulting company and rent it back to the Titans RLFC to use. The only isssue is what happens to the CoE if the company that owns it goes bump. The team may need to find a new facility, but that won't help anyone.

If the NRL owns the faciltiy, other teams can send there players to it as a finishing school for rugby players then afterwards you can have a draft... ;-)
