Released today that Kyrie Irving has rejected Australia's bid to have him in the National team in London 2012 and instead focusing on getting into Team USA for 2016.

Shame really.

Would have been great to have him

I guess you can't blame someone wanting to be in Team USA, little dissapointed he chose them ahead of us tho.

Good luck to him, will have Rose, Westbrook, Rondo, Paul, D Will, and possibly Wall, Curry, and Lowry ahead of him in the pecking order

Maybe he'll realise by 2015 that he won't make Team USA and play for us? Is that possible?

He plays the deepest position in the NBA. Hopefully he isn't quite good enough to make Team USA and is able to change his mind by 2016.

Maybe he has seen how basketball NSW run the game in this state and think if that is how they do it across the board then leave me out.

^ This +1 x100!!!

Silly move if you ask me... he will be hoping that he can pull a Steven Bradbury to make that USA team

Those guys are ahed of him now but in four years who knows? I doubt by 2016 Curry and Lowry will be ahead of him and some of the others might not be either. Thats if they still wanna play for team USA in four years.

Lol jealous much, they guy will be a bonafide superstar by 2016. Probably the best point guard in the league or certainly right up there.

The guy is only 19yrs old, and the #1 draft pick for the NBA - he's got a better chance of making the USA team then not.

Go the Knicks!

Such a shame. Really disappointing actually. A big fan of Irving, this lowers him a little in my book as a Cleveland fan.

Maybe some would, but just because he chose not to play for NZ I wouldn't ignore the fact that he is probably going to be the best, or top 3 point guard in the league in the coming years. And why is it a silly move....means he will probably get to win a gold medal rather than just go to the Olympics.

Based on? How many games have you seen him play? The guys a stud, only just turned 20 years old. Better rookie season so far than Roses, not far of CP3s. He'll quickly enter the top 5 in the next season or two without a doubt.

Another point is why bother with a very long shot at a bronze for the Basketballroos or whatever they call themselves  . Much better off biding his time to have a shot at the gold with Team USA, it pretty much makes no sense for him to rep Australia unless he'd seriously struggled at NBA level (5ppg style).

for the record i have seen Kyrie play quite a bit this season, he is having a great rookie year and he is certainly gonna be great but on reputation alone he doesnt get picked for team USA... and thats what that team is picked on all day everyday...

You do know he's only had what 50 games in the NBA right? Lets see what he's reputation is like in a few years.
