That's great to hear, I was worried that this would be a way for Australia to try and poach players from other nations. Why can't they apply the same rule for senior level SOO?

Sorry EH should read *will NOT be available. The design is that if they play jnr SOO they can't play jnr Kiwis. This will apply until the kiwis get their JNR and snr SOO off the ground hopefully next year. Then all the eligibility will be sorted early and stop the poaching and back and forward.

So effectively if you now play in an Under 20's Origin match for NSW, QLD or NZ, then you're locked into that for the seniors - is that right?

That's correct in most cases. Even if you play nsw or QLD 18s you are locked in. Exception is those dual nationality can play nsw/QLD 20s and still go on to play senior kiwis at this point. Just not jnr kiwis. Will become enforceable across the board as soon as kiwis have SOO style game in place at 20s snr and possibly 18s. Looking to start next year. Non dual eligibility will be locked in state wise from this year if chosen in 18s, 20s.

Nothing for island nations though. There are a lot of juniors with Tongan, Samoan and Fijian background.

Binge & Alvaro will be interesting ones, fairly sure they played their first senior game in NSW yet have gone onto represent Queensland in U18's.

I suppose with Auva'a it depends on which nation he chooses.

The situation with Melbourne is pretty interesting. Looks like it'll soon be Qld & NZ vs. NSW & Victoria. Hell you could thread WA in with NSW too.

Queensland are going to have a lot less NRL experienced players and it wouldn't surprise me to see them struggle like they have in U/18s.

A quick Queensland line-up if all potentials are available.

1. Lachlan Maranta
2. Aaron Whitchurch
3. Tautau Moga
4. Hymel Hunt
5. Kyle Feldt
6. Matt Beddow
7. Ben Hampton
8. Chris Grevsmuhl
9. Dean Blackman
10. Korbin Sims
11. Mitchell Frei
12. Jason Taumalolo
13. Benn Malley

14. Kurt Mann
15. Stephen Coombe
16. Dylan Napa

You can scratch young Curtis Sironen, he hasn't played all season with a shoulder problem and is due back week 10. Not sure if he has played lock before either. I have seen him at five eight and centre in the past.

I think Jack stockwell should be in and if you're struggling to find a centre you could shift wighton into the centres. Evander cummins has been in top form at fullback for nyc dragons and could be a smokie for the number 1 jersey!

Chad Redman for Newcastle would e a good selection on the bench. Former Australian Schoolboy Hooker he is currently playing very well at lock for the high flying Knights 20s team.

Im not so sure about that Pete. I know he came to the Broncos at 16 but I think he played under 16s in Wollongong before that

He played Harold Matts for Illawarra.
Not sure if he played HM for 2 years though, or just the one (playing a year up) before moving to QLD.

Why are people picking Korbin Sims for QLD?

He is a gerringong junior.

With the new eligibility rules he will be classed a NSW player. 6 questions to answer in his case clear majority is NSW therefore that is his eligibility.

For those that are interested these are the new eligibility questions for SOO both Open age and 20s. Players must answer NSW, QLD or NA.

The documents states “If a clear majority results, your eligibility for City/Country and State Reps. selection is automatic.” As there are also related City/Country questions with this also.
1. In which State of Australia was the player born?
2. In which State of Australia did the player play Rugby League for the majority of years from U/6 - U/18 inclusive.
3. In which State of Australia did the player spend the majority of years at School i.e. Yrs K - 12?
4. In which State of Australia did the player first play Rugby League in a State run Jun rep competition at U/15s or above.
5. For which State of Australia did the player first play School State Representative Rugby League?
6. If none of 1 – 5 above answer as NSW or QLD, in which State of Australia was the player first registered to play Rugby League within a State-Based competition?
