Yes , fully agree with the above.

Talk of reducing any of the Sydney based clubs is just simply diluting the RL market in Sydney and for that matter Australia!

These clubs have history and market credibility.

If you meddle with that you lose a very special advantage the game of RL has in the market place!

By the way, bringing back the Bears in form of the Central Coast Bears will strengthen the game within the Sydney basin and Australia wide,

Some people need to get a grip. No-one said anything about making Penrith play their games at Homebush.

They did however say that the NSW govt was partial to putting a roof over the SFS or SA yet no-one has mentioned that yet...

Wet weather is a part of rugby league. Bad idea too.

I am referring to playing the game in the wet. Pandering to the fans to the extent
of removing wet weather football is crazy. So you get a handful more fans at the game
instead of at home watching on TV.

How much of a team's survival is based on crowd figures? Manly are private, like the Knights. So in theory if someone pays the bills then it doesn't mater if they sell a ticket does it? Looks crap and everything but Clive Palmer locked fans out of his clubs games.
OK, so we dont need crowds. Lets go the whole hog. Channel 9 and Foxtel each build a 120m x90m studio with a grass floor. Play all games there.

I think they could build a 25k or 30k seat stadium in the north and use it for footy, union, and soccer. You'd think with all the rich liberal voters over there that they'd get somewhere to watch a game of something. Manly could have a few games there, the Waratahs could have a game there, and surely Sydney FC could have a game or two over there too.
Or upgrade Brooky for a fraction of the cost and get the same result.........
Souths ?............. 25k's from their " home area "

and despite indifferent seasons on the field have increased their crowds by 25% since moving to Homebush.

I remember souths fans saying they'd never follow them out there
similar to some of the bleatings from a few in here

well fine , stay at home you won't be missed.
the game will move on without them
Listen genius - there is a factor at play here. Clubs increase their local fan base with strong seasons, and they lose potential new fans to sucessful nearby clubs in poor seasons. Souths havent had a successful season since Jimi Hendrix was alive. Meanwhile the four clubs around them, Easts, Saints, Balmain and Canterbury, have appeared in 28 grand finals and won 13. Anyone living around Redfern-Mascot-Maroubra are more likely to follow anyone else. The old Rabbitoh fans from the district in their glory days have moved and had kids and grandkids and live all over the place. The only reason someone is a Souffs fan is either because their grandfather saw Eric Simms play, or for the government dental plan.

The percentage of the polulation of Souffs fans is probably equal in Granville, Tamworth, Darwin or Madrid as they are in Redfern. Rusty took a game to f*cking Florida and got fans.

TV execs don't give a cr@p about 10K at the SFS
or 18K at Kogarah
the same 1 Million nationally will watch both if its a quality game & they're happy ....then
the clubs will get their TV money from the NRL as a result
thing is the club would probably make more in gate receipts in the game ...

at the SFS

see you can charge more for a seat thats under cover then a square of grass that isn't
any accountant will tell you that ;-)

time for RL to move forward & get with the times.
You cant charge anything for a seat that no one wants to buy you clueless gimp! Any accountant will tell you that!

Someone brought up the Parra crowds at Belmore. They made 3 grand finals and won 2 comps playing there - and had some of the worst crowds in their history.

People also forget that this is the era of night television. Saturday/Sunday arvo gives people time to wander all over Sydney to see a game. What family wants to walk out of ANZ at 9.30, find a train station at 10 - change at another one at 10.15 and then get off again at 11.15 and get home at f*cking midnight??????? All for a plastic f*cking seat?????????

What could possibly make me want to drive further in more traffic and pay more in a place I don't want be?

Foxtel would be the big winner.

If the sharks moved to a big stadium I would never go.
Watching from a home ground is a large part of the reason I follow them.
It is all part of the experience.
I have grown up watching them play there.
They move they may as well change their name.
Shithouse idea.
I would expect most fans would be dead against losing the home ground.

This. And I would have thought Annesley the Min of sport who lives in the shire, would understand the point. The public transport and road transport from the area to the SFS or ANZ on a monday or friday night, with family is plain dumb.

What applies in Melbourne doesn't apply to Sydney.
Have expressways going direct to the SFS and ANZ or direct rail link ,and there may be a chance.

Rest assured playing at the SFS Cronulla crowds would drop.
The Sharks owning their own ground should tell those in power to get knotted, that they will improve their own facilities.
The idea, much like the journo who wrote the article, plain stupid.

Imagine a Monday night, and its pissing down rain for a Shark's home game at the SFS,oh goodee,we will drag the family out after school ,battle our way through the peak hour traffic to get there. Then after the game has finished with the kiddies going to school next day, get home about 10-30pm.Yeah what a great marketing innovation.
How to make your club membership an even smaller one, without really trying.

Oh ffs...

Putting a roof over one or two stadiums still leaves a dozen without. I seriously can't believe some of he posters in this thread.

46,000 did in the final round of this year .... you dribbling halfwit :lol:

if it were left to d heads like you

we'd still be playing on sat & sundays only
only at suburban grounds
only during the day
with no interchanges unless injured
& we'd get to the ground in a bondi tram
& we'd of got 475 dollars in our last TV rights deal with players still amatuer & earning 2n6 for their efforts

the game has moved on from the backward thinking of imbos like you still stuck in the 1950's
keep standing still .... we're going this way

Brookvale - ANZ - 42 minutes
Campbelltown -ANZ (no tolls) 52 minutes (42 with)
Penrith - ANZ 32 minutes (with tolls)
Cronulla - ANZ 41 mins

IN comparison:
Dandenong - MCG 28 mins
Ringwood - MCG - 24 mins
Broadmeadows - MCG 24 mins
Altona - MGC - 23 mins

Big difference.

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet that they're basing game locations on the Victorian model yet the vast majority of NRL games are played at night while the VFL still have games played on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. I don't like the chances of parents loading their kids into the car for a hour drive each way to a "home" game at 7pm on a Monday night or 7:30 on a Thursday/Sunday night. Even the 9:30 finish on a Saturday is a bit much for a lot of kids even without the hour or more drive there and back. As a teenager I used to go to plenty of games with my mates, we'd go to the beach or something in the morning, get some lunch then head to Brookie on Sunday arvo. No way would many parents be letting their kids head into the city or out to Homebush on their own.

For Brookvale, Cronulla and Campbelltown it is a trip that is at least 50% longer.

You would have been correct if you said "up to 29 minutes" as the phrase "up to" refers to the maximum which in this case would be the difference between 23 and 52 minutes.

Thank You

I get sick of tired of ppl making comparisons to AFL or Melbourne and that we should do what they do.

MCG and Docklands are basically the centre of all the AFL clubs who play at those grounds. And its probably easier and more convenient to get to.

But when you look at a ANZ and SFS (as I'll call it) there is quite some distance from quite a few Sydney clubs, as you mentioned.

So all we need to do is to get Hindy and 3 other club legends to play their final game every week.

Shouldnt you be at your Mensa meeting with Bunniesman?

Modern thinking = Play the entire comp at one stadium in front of no fans. Id like to see you make the trip you f*cking dribbler.I can see why you dont understand the concept that people attending games is a good thing - no one's been to see the Raiders since they had money to break a salary cap with

Straight to the f*cking rubber room by the sounds of it.

Those times are a gross underestimate.

If you can drive from Brookvale to ANZ in 42minutes on a Friday night leaving at 5.30pm ill start supporting the sharks.

Minimum 1hour 20 with traffic I would suggest

Amazed that people consider travelling 60mins a big imposition. Ok not ideal for young kids on a Friday or Monday night but seriously an hours travel isn't a hardship to attend an event!
