Good to see the nsw government made this decision after gifting an afl team nobody cares about a brand new stadium at homebush when they could of just as easily played at Blacktown or anz stadium next door in front of the same 3000 people.

I think $150mil for any upgrade or redevelopment of a suburban ground would be paying significant overs

It's costing $97mill for a redevelopment of half of nib so if you needed two big covered stands plus then you wouldn't be far off that budget.

So you don't think families have different expectations today than those of previous decades? God your a f* coking idiot!
No, but I dont think the desire for family time in a world of ever increasing working and commuting time has been dwarfed by a massive desire to sit on plastic seats.

But I could be wrong. Luckily all NRL grounds - even the allegedly worst ground in history - Brookvale - HAS A PLASTIC SEAT OPTION!!!!!!!!

Wow - you never thought of that did you!. Of course, such an option is more expensive, but when balanced against the extra transport costs getting to ANZ, PLUS the added benefit is that you can commute home from work, pick up the kids and missus AND HAVE A SHOWER/BEER/ROOT before you leave, rather than racing out the door again to get all the way back to ANZ by 7.30 kick off - it would work out cheaper.

Unless the modern family of grossly offended by the sight of a grassy hill.

Here's a question for you. Which ground is likely to have the lowest average percentage of capacity for a given season? Leichhardt, Brooky or ANZ?

You think it's just about a plastic seat? Whooosh

Here's a question for you, which Sydney grounds have the lowest crowd averages?

How bad would the Roosters' crowds be if their fans actually had to travel an hour to their games?

Alot of us Rooster fans are cringing at the continued used of the name "Sydney Roosters"
We would much rather East Sydney Roosters. It gives an idea of our locality in Sydney and links well to our history.

Unfortunately we still "cringe" on!

What else it is about? Nice toilets? A desire to travel vast distances on public transport?

Penrith and SFS. 3 of the bottom 4 ground averages were at all seaters!!!!

You were saying??????

Just a thought I brought up in another part of the forums (and probably brought up somewhere in the last 20 pages), what about a return to the old NSWRL match of the round to be played out of either the SFS or Stadium Australia, depending on the teams location? The Sunday FTA game I reckon would be the best kick off time for the match, and fulfils this apparent need of games away from suburban grounds while not abandoning these great venues full time.

That was mentioned as an NRL thought around ground sharing, giving them the right to move games of note to bigger stadia as a type of 'match of the round'.

People, Wollongong is one of the Stadium NSW grounds. Perhaps Penrith Council and/or Campbelltown Council should try to sell their grounds to Stadium NSW?

Kind of defeats the point of consolidating around a small number of facilities. Apart from the SFS and Homebush, surely the only other League ground Venues NSW would be interested in bringing under their banner would be Bluetongue. Who actually owns that anyway (as opposed to the management rights)?

Leigh.

I think a ground a bit further out than Parra or Homebush would be an advantage to the plan. But I was thinking about from the Club & Councils pov.

Ideally we'd see a two main three minor stadium support programme by the nsw govt. as said if wa govt can spend $1.5 bill on two stadiums don't see why a state 4 times bigger couldn't manage it.

You can't seriously tell me people no longer want cold pies and warm beers Perth Red?
He's a Pom. You have just described his Christmas dinner.

Here we go. Mining royalties for a start. Perth has 2 old stadiums and thats it. NSW Govt tight arsed - Pacific Hwy, remember? Plus the biggie - they are not needed.

You still havent said what the real boner is about new stadiums if it isnt plastic seats.

England and the US have gone to all seater major stadiums. It's more comfortable. It's safer. it's the way of the future.

How is my seat in my grandstand more comfortable if there are seats in another part of the ground instead of grass? How is plastic safer than grass?

stay dry, know that you can get a seat that will keep you dry if you turn up late or are not a member, no long ques for a drink or something to eat, no long ques for the toilet, 25k accomodated comfortably, better parking. Of course you could have all these things at a suburban ground, if you can find $150 mill to upgrade them.

The game is moving more and more to evening games, sunny sundays on a grass hills are becoming less and less (is it me or does it seem to rain more often during the season now?), how much fun is it sat on a hill on a damp July night?
