Thanks Captain Obvious.

I chose it to appeal to the core audience of rugby league.

And its an easily remembered song.

I would have thought we wanted to appeal to those on the peripheral of being a NRL fan. Not core NRL fans.

We need to attract those that have a passing interest but no considered a fan, essentially those who know of the game, but not parting with $$ to become involved with the game.

Too obvious a concept ?

The concept is blatantly obvious, however i believed flawed.

Personally , Im a Rugby League tragic, however the amount of people who I have met who have said " I uaed to watch it, when I was younger , be fore that Super League stuff" is beyond belief. We need to enagae those people again.

The kids are listening to 80s music anyway....and everything old appears new again. I say the kids are sold when their parents are...( who buy them stuff and have a major influence on which sport they play).

We need to engage that dynamic and give them a reason to return.

A campaign based around a song that everyone knows, that has become part of the social landscape , that could be found by the kids in their Dads collection i believe might give a palpable sense of " passing on " the love of our great game to a new generation.

So that's why no one goes to games in Adelaide - because of a bloke who posts on a League forum. Who'd a thought?

Imagine it'll be a soft-ish, slowish type tune in keeping with the new sanitised version of the game. The tune doesn't interest me as much as the highlights or story they play around it.

If it is to be an Aussie band for this season that's ok with me but looking at 2014 and beyond then I think Springsteen & The E Street Band singing Working on a Dream. 16 versus one for each club that can be played into each clubs local market and the dream that we're working on is that my team will be lifting the trophy on GF day. As others have said nothing too radical and if we can all sing along to it that is a plus.

Bran Van - in the list of the biggest earning concerts of 2012, Van Halen (8th), Bruce Springsteen (2nd) and Madonna (1st), with a Michael Jackson tribute show 4th. All time highest attendence includes U2 (twice), AC/DC and The Police in the top 10, from their last tours.

Just because you listen to some stupid teenybopper autotune laden computer music.....

BranVan is right. You guys are kidding yourselves if you think all the kids have finally come around and realised how right their parents were about music in your particular formative era. Source: high school teacher.

Kids are all listening to 80s music. That's some serious wishful thinking. Bon Jovi was a shit idea and whichever 80s musician they dig up next will be a shit idea if they want to connect to a younger generation. Not saying I'm happy about it but thems the facts.

Whos kids are still listening to 80s music? lol maybe the odd kidd or two, maybe.

If the goal is to connect with the younger generation pick a song released post 2003 otherwise you're not being serious. There are always the odd exceptions to the rule but there aren't many in this case imo.

^ So true!

There are more than in previous generations. I never listened to my parents music unless nailed to a chair and forced to. Now, kids are listening to stuff as far back as the Beatles. Kids learning to play guitar think more of Slash and Metallica than todays bands. My 15yo, who spent the last year trying to explain dubstep to me, recently bought his first CD - and has played it to death - the only think I hear him singing to. "These are such good songs" he says. The CD? Police Greatest Hits.

My 16yo adores the Iron Maiden shirt I got him for Christmas!
