Why is Matthew Elliott such a terrible coach?

The real question is how the f**k did he get another job after Penrith?

His problem from his time at Canberra and Penrith was his belief that every player should be a a backrower. Doesn't matter who they were, stick them in the backrow.

Unfortunately it created a team of players with no spark as they were all coached into one-off runs and nothing ever happened.

The one good thing he came up with was the surprise short kick off used randomly in games. It worked at an incredibly high percentage for us and I never understood why other teams/coaches didn't include it as an option in their arsenal.

I love Matthew Elliott, Kevin Kingston at halfback still makes me laugh.

The NRL needs him for these selections, he perfectly blends footy and comedy.

My favourite Matty Elliott moment was when he selected Terry Martin at 5/8th. For the first time ever in his career. In a finals match.

The real question is how he manages to keep getting paid to do it

He'd be a great bloke to go out on the town and smash the cans with, which is the exact same reason he's a bad coach. Could you imagine seeing Bennett or Bellamy out sinking piss with the boys? Of course not. He wants to be everyone's mate, so the players don't respect him when it's "serious time".
I had a boss like that years ago, most fun I ever had at work, least serious working environment I've ever worked in and least productive.

Hagen is probably another example, in fact there's many you could put in that category and none of them were very successful. Elliot, Hagen, Taylor, Fittler, Brown etc
