For anybody not watching the game, Phil Gould just announced that Steve Price's contract as Dragons coach has been extended until the end of the 2014 season with an option for 2015. :D

From Dragons.com -

The St George Illawarra Dragons announced Thursday that the Club and Head Coach Steve Price have agreed to terms for a contract extension beyond this season.

Price’s current contract with the Dragons expires at the end of 2013 and today’s agreement will see Price remain at the Club for an additional season, with the option of a further season in 2015.

“Our contractual situation enabled us to explore options which we have been doing and the Board has resolved to offer an extension to Steve Price,” said Dragons CEO Peter Doust.

“The Board have taken a very close interest in Steve’s continued development as an NRL Coach since he was extended the opportunity to be Head Coach of the Dragons in 2011 and we believe that he is to be respected for his contributions and disposition towards the Dragons, through testing times”.

Price,34, is delighted with the extension and extremely humbled to continue his coaching career with the Dragons.
“I have been at the Dragons as a Coach since 2002 and love everything about it, the history and tradition and all the people associated with the Club,” said Price.

“I feel very proud to be able to continue my association and am thankful to the Dragons Board for giving me the opportunity and I am excited about the future.

“In saying this, I have remained very focused on this season and have not let the discussions distract me from what I have needed to do this season and I am really confident about where we are headed.”

Good stability at last. The roosters signed troubled superstars and now look unbeatable. Take note Doust Josh Dugan, Todd Carney would have been useful today.

I've always thought he deserves more time to prove himself. Next year he will have some quality new players and hopefully a fit Gerard Beale and Kyle Stanley.

Roosters so far look too big too fast too strong, but we are trying our hearts out. I hope we can hold our own in the second half.

Arthur, Sheens, Barrett... I'm surprised there weren't rumours Doust was going to coach them himself.

Completely out-coached in that first half. However, more importantly the Roosters completely out-recruited us and everyone else in the off season. We are missing 1 in 5 tackles on average. Price deserves more time but unless we are able to land Dugan, Chase and a decent centre, and/or to blood the likes of Cummins, Quinlan and Runciman soon it will be another year of us making up the numbers and a slow demise for Price.

I feel sorry for Widdop... Not sure he's very used to playing in an average team with a clueless coach. At least Thompson has experienced this..

Even allowing for the refs calls at times that went against us, we really were like a ship with no rudder......on todays performance imo its not hard to see what the players think of Price's extended contract.... if we want to attract better player to our club then imo they wont come to play under a rookie coach......some will say that we' just signed Widdop that's true but the only way we are going to attract better players from here on in, is if we pay them big bucks (and the money wont go around for ever) rather than them wanting to come to say play under a Bennett or Bellamy etc. Just my thoughts at the moment.

I think today just confirmed the gulf between top 4 & the rest. The Roosters are a very good team this year & were pumped up for today. The Dragons lost their way in the first half after that blitz, but held their own in the 2nd. The Roosters defence was strong, but the Dragons made it easier by kicking early on numerous occasions in good field position.
