Total bullshit call from Hayne and Mellor as video refs in the Knights v Sharks game.

Newcastle fans should rightly be pissed.

I don't mind ex-players being involved as video refs, but never involved with a game that their old club playing.

In a time of gambling scandals and the integrity of the game being under such scrutiny, having ex-players making decisions on their old club is amatuer hour.

It's not a one off either, Luke Patten has officiated on Bulldogs games.

Perception is reality, and this situation will always be open to scepticism and should be avoided.

Old players aside, wtf is wrong with Shayne Hayne?!!?

That ballbag makes way too many bullshit mistakes. It can't help but make you wonder.

Luke Phillips was the ref in the roosters penrith game yesterday, the same bloke who played in the roosters 2000 gf loss and 2002 premiership team.

There was no problem with the Sharks try. The on-field ref said he thought it was a try and there was no absolutely conclusive evidence that could overturn the ref's call. It was the kind of try that in previous years would have been given under benefit of the doubt. And do people really think that video refs would risk their careers by being favourable to one team over another because they used to play for them?

newie got dudded bad on the graham knock-on.

the darius in goal thing was a fair call. didn't at any stage look like he had the ball in the field of play - remembering the tryline is in-goal.

like someone else said - the knights were never onside during any of the fieldgoal attempts.

Thats his view. Here's a couple from the game day thread.

That is the correct application of the new rules. Which Im fine with.

I think he probably touched it, but given the new ruling you couldn't say he definitely did so fair enough

ABC commentators have the same view and so do I. Rodwell during commentary said he would have gone with the on-field decision eveb though he thought he touched it because there wasn't enough proof.

I mentioned this in the other thread about the Graham knock-on, but the camera angles they chose with which to view the incident were bizarre. The first angle, which was more of a side angle, showed the knock-on a lot better. You clearly see the fingers come into contact with the ball and the ball deviate. But we never saw this angle again. The front-on angle, which is the one they then persisted with for like 6 straight views for some reason, didn't show it as well, as Graham's hands were more behind the ball from this angle.

For the people who don't think there was a knock-on, this is the angle they probably remember and I'm not suprised, since this is pretty much the only angle they looked at. The decision aside, that is pretty incompetent in itself.

Gidley robbed himself of the win.
He had a good couple of cracks and missed. Bad luck.

But I would like to hear more about what E.T did to Mellor.

Over a whole season these kind of decisions affect every team eventually. It all pretty much evens out in the end.

I noticed that as well.

The video ref Mellor shied away from looking at that angle that proved it beyond doubt.
