Spine almost there....

Saints have a gun No.1 in Dugan and great 9's rotating in Rein and King. Just need the halves and Saints have a spine up there with the top sides in the comp.

Fein did well yesterday. Apart from 1 poor kick the others were just as good as Soward.

That should be easy to fix, lets just buy whoever is available ........ :p

Well we have signed Widdop and hopefully soon sign Rangi Chase. So with these two players together with Drinkwater and K Stanley, I think we will have a great spine for 2014.

Fein did well yesterday.

FFS did we watch the same game??!! Fien was in everything and that is precisely why it took 2 pieces of individual brilliance from Dugan and terrible Newcastle mistake for the Dragons to get their only points. They didn't even look like scoring apart from that despite dominating possession and field position. Apart from Dugan King, DeBelin and Stockwell are very good. 3 guys the ##### coach didn't deem good enough for first grade until recently. Makes me wonder how many potential stars are marking time behind Fien in paticular and a few others.

It is quite apparent to a lot of people on this forum that you did not watch the same game. Fien had a good game last night & this was backed up by the 2GB Continues Call Team which definitely has a lot more knowledge than you. So stop blood whinging. As I have said the playmaker is coming but no doubt you will put blinkers & still whinge

I'm fien's harshest critic and even I can say he had a decent game last night. I would agree in the fact that we never looked like scoring apart from dugans involvement. I think the problem is no strike centres and a 5/8 with no attacking ability.

Fien had a strong game last night. For the remainder of the season we could possibly field:

1.Dugan
6.Chase Stanley/Williams
7.Fien/Drinkwater
9.King/Rein

Possible 2014 spine:

1.Dugan
6.Kyle Stanley/Widdop/Rangi
7.Williams/Widdop
9.King/Rein

1. Jason Nightingale
2. Nathan Green
3. Charlie Runciman
4. Gareth Widdop
5. Brett Morris
6. Chase Stanley
7. Gerard Beale

Some points there!

He was very heavily involved. I think this is why the attack was so terrible. I guess super coach:shock: told Stanley to basically keep out of the way and let Fien take care of the playmaking.

Cronulla have worse centres than Dragons. Maybe not so much tonight but their attack is far better even with Dugan on board. Still I agree about centres. Maybe because super coach  keeps picking a prop in the centres.

Well good news regarding our recruitment for next year. Widdop got man of the match tonight! Set up a few tries and got one himself! And Fien did have a solid game, did everything required of him. I thought Stanley wasn't bad for his first halves game. He offered a little more than he does at centre. At centre, he's one of those 'solid players' who won't stuff up, but won't make a difference either.

Fien was good last night.
Careful. That sort of talk can get you into trouble around here. lol.

I don't think Fien is a half back by any stretch, but credit given where credit is due. He definitely had a good game, only a few blemishes but he was very involved and stepped up to the challenge.

We can knock the players and coach when they are crap, but I think we can also give them a wrap when they get it together.

I don't quite understand Fiery's post. No offence, but there seems to be a few contradictions in there. Didn't look like scoring? We had two tries disallowed, and missed out narrowly on at least one other occasion.

Newcastle were ordinary, I agree. Their handling in particular. Although they did have some go forward in their kit. But at the end of the day you can only play what's in front of you. Would much rather be a Saints supporter this weekend than a Newcastle supporter.

Not a great win, but a solid come from behind win.

Everything except organize the offense to score tries. If Fien did everything required of him super coach  is even more of a nightmare than I thought. I think Stanley is far from the worst centre in the comptition but he is certainly no Mark Gasnier. I think he could make a good stop-gap 5/8 if partnered with a half with a good passing game and organizational skills.

Fien played very well. He had a better game than he has had in recent weeks. But when it comes to comparing the spine players of each club, I think a good rule is to compare players against their likely selection in rep games.

In Dugan we have a top line fullback that could easily slot into the NSW SOO side.
In Widdop we have a top line half; he is in line for selection in the England side.
On current form, it is most unlikely that Fein, Soward or Chase Stanley would contest a rep position.
Neither Rein or King would be considered for rep football at this stage either.

If we sign Rangi Chase we have another top line half / five-eighth - possible England selection. and I believe the King / Rein rotation will prove to be very solid next year however, I think a King / Garvey hooker rotation would be something special to see.

If King could play 80min like Farah and Smith he is a potential superstar. Such a shame super coach  had him playing in the Cutters almost all of last season.

King has had a spate of injuries and Rein stepped up last year. I think you need to get your facts straight.
So whose your preference for coach? Enlighten us.

A player like Mark Gasnier does not come along very often.
